Re: St Clare's quiz
Having just done the St Clare's readathon I feel I should know this. Is it a dog ?

Re: Hand-me-downs
Again similar to the shower/bath business I had loads of hand me downs. I was the youngest of 3 and the youngest of all my cousins. I didn't mind. But I also got new clothes as well. Clothes were a lot more expensive than they are now, and it was just accepted as part of life. I can afford new cloth...

Re: St Clare's reread
I am a bit embarrassed to admit that I as a kid probably had baths once or twice a week. I am in my mid 50's. We had a shower but the power was terrible so made do with baths and I only washed my hair once a week - in the bath or over the sink. So I can relate to the weekly bath/shower situation and...

Re: St Clare's reread
Finished the last one last week in fact but got held up with a bad cold. I enjoyed them much more that I thought I would but still maintain the last 2 are the best - the humour is great and Claudine injects both humour and .perceptive truths. Also there is more continuity and development of characte...

Re: St Clare's reread
For me that is one of the main downsides of St Clare's as opposed to Malory Towers - the vanishing characters. Even the twins and Hilary only get mentioned almost in passing. She focuses on the new characters for each form per book and the others fade away. Nevertheless books 5 and 6 are very good. ...

Re: St Clare's reread
I would love to get hold of that invisible chalk. I haven't read much in the way of other school stories. I flirted briefly with the Chalet girls stories but for some reason I didn't like them. Just too preposterous I found and very little humour. Perhaps I should try the Angela Brazil ones. I even ...

Re: St Clare's reread
Much to my surprise I am enjoying this more than I thought I would have as I consider St Clare's the poor relation of Malory Towers. The series gets batter and by book 5 it really is very good. My main issue is that EB mainly focuses on the newcomers and the main characters like the O'Sullivan Twins...

Re: Favourite Five Find-Outers book
The FF' O's were a bit mean to Ern but then he was quite rude too. But in terms of my favourite one I reread a the Missing Prince and this time it was a really old edition and my first time of reading it. There were quite a few passages that had been cut in subsequent more politically aware editions...

Re: Angela in St Clare's
I am rereading the Malory Tower series right now so finding the comments on Gwendoline Mary very interesting. I wouldn't describe her nor Angela as evil though. I keep that word for people that kill/maim others. But they both showed signs of cruelty and very little self awareness and who knows where...

Re: Malory Towers quiz
I thought I has posted my question yesterday but didn't save. In MT term 1 what was the colour of the ink in Mary-Lou's pen that Gwendoline smashed and then tried to incriminate Darrell ?

Re: The "marvelous" Linnie in Six Cousins
I disagree. In fact I think the 2 farm books arguably make up one of the best sets of Enid's non adventure books. Her problem was more that she did not know when to stop and the last books of many of her longer series were a great disappointment, FFO, FF, Secret Seven, and Adventure stories all suff...

Re: Eileen Soper - Selected Pics In Colour!
I am being really thick but who did the colourings in ? Is that you (Pete) or Eileen Soper herself as the only ones I have in colour are in red or blue. They are really great. I don't like the Betty Maxwell ones. There is a depressing quality about them. As for the current cartoon ones - they are ju...
