For me that is one of the main downsides of St Clare's as opposed to Malory Towers - the vanishing characters. Even the twins and Hilary only get mentioned almost in passing. She focuses on the new characters for each form per book and the others fade away. Nevertheless books 5 and 6 are very good. ...

I am rereading the Malory Tower series right now so finding the comments on Gwendoline Mary very interesting. I wouldn't describe her nor Angela as evil though. I disagree. In fact I think the 2 farm books arguably make up one of the best sets of Enid's non adventure books. Her problem was more that she did not know when to stop and the last books of many of her longer series were a great disappointment, FFO, FF, Secret Seven, and Adventure stories all suff...
