Re: Magic Faraway Tree set for cinema?

I don't mind if it's a faithful recreation or not, as long as it's a good film. The Dark Tower was criticised for not being faithful to Stephen King's books, but that didn't bother me, and I enjoyed it despite the flaws. I'm glad the film finally looks like it's going ahead. The last time I Googled ...

Re: The Secret Seven at Chester Storyhouse

I saw this today and was disappointed. The set and costumes looked good, but I thought it was shouty and over-acted at times, and it didn't grip me. Maybe there were too many characters to introduce in a short space of time - if I remember rightly, there were 4 or 5 before the Seven first appeared. ...

I'd love to have those if I was rich and had a huge bookcase.

Re: The Secret Seven at Chester Storyhouse

I've booked for the last weekend, so unfortunately won't be able to give feedback in time for anyone else who is considering going. It sounds very good judging by the write-up in the Chester Chronicle. I find the price differences for different times/dates annoying - it's as cheap as £21, but as exp...

The Secret Seven at Chester Storyhouse

Is anyone going to see this? I saw the posters for it on the way to work last week and got quite excited (though I never got massively into The Secret Seven, but it is Enid Blyton). https://www.storyhouse.com/event/secretseven" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Apologies if it'...

Re: Amazing Libraries

Considering I started it, you'd think I would have checked already, but the last two posts inspired me to check for mobile libraries in Staffordshire - and two do still operate. One visits my village every 3 weeks! Rather than a 2-minute walk like I remember, it's now a 10-minute walk. But it's usef...

Re: Amazing Libraries

Once I'd found my way in, I enjoyed a quick visit to the National Library in Paris earlier this year. How many libraries have a mini-forest in the middle?! The four buildings that surround the 'forest' were designed to look like open books: https://i.imgur.com/5nZ2SQq.jpg" onclick="window....

Wow - I'd love to visit that one in Inverness.

How about libraries? My favourite is probably Strahov in Prague: http://artial.net/wp-content/uploads/20 ... ague-3.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Your favourite holiday location.

My favourite country is Iceland. I spent 2ish incredible weeks there about 10 years ago. I've wanted to return ever since. My dream is to hire a small camper van and travel around the island. I also love Georgia (the country) and Scotland, particularly the Hebrides - which are absolutely beautiful. ...

Re: Last Song You Listened To

The last song I listened to was called The End, by The Big Moon - which is quite appropriate considering Moon-Face is on the cover of two books I've recently bought. :)

Re: The Faraway Tree Trilogy - Pre-"Political Correctness"

Thanks again everyone. I decided to go for 1970s, and picked these 1978 Beaver editions as I liked the covers most. I also love waterfalls, so couldn't resist The Secret Valley when I saw the cover. :)

Re: The Faraway Tree Trilogy - Pre-"Political Correctness"

Thanks for the suggestions and welcome. I didn't think I'd have to potentially go as far back as pre-70s, but I'm glad I asked. I'm an 80s child, so guess it'll be the 70s or 80s versions I read, given my mum took me to the library a lot. :) So I'm sure I'll be happy with any of those. The only cove...

I had no idea Enid Blyton wrote poetry too. I'm enjoying reading these. :D

The Faraway Tree Trilogy - Pre-"Political Correctness"

Hello - from what I can tell by reading reviews (though I'm not sure), the 2008 Faraway Tree compilation has the newer names and aspects of the story changed/removed. The name changes wouldn't bother me too much, but I want the original stories - does anyone know how far back I have to go to be safe...
