Re: Error Messages

I had that happen to me yesterday or the day before as well. Fortunately when I tried to post again after the error message, I got the message that at least one more post had been added to the thread since I started writing, and I could see it was mine that had been posted already, so I didn't dupl...

Re: St Clare's reread

The girls certainly aren't nice to Alma but she doesn't make it easy for them with her temper too. What would be your order from best liked book to least liked in the series? I can't really make up my mind. My first two places go to Summer Term and Second Form - maybe Summer Terms wins by a very sma...

Re: Nature

I somehow missed the replies in this thread :?. When I was a child our neighbours had a magnolia too but I'm not sure if it is still there. The big magnolia from the photo has lost its blossoms by now but there are some small magnolias with blossoms in a darker pink that flourish later and are now n...

Re: What makes you annoyed?

I could somehow follow their thoughts if they were only removing slappings by characters that are seen as "good". Don't they ever publish books for children where some baddies use physical violence?

Re: What makes you annoyed?

Thanks, Anita.

I still don't get why an unpleasant aunt mustn't slap some one on the arm, though...

Re: What makes you annoyed?

I hate being lied at. Just stumbled upon the description of an edition of "The Secret Island" on amazon and it states: "First published in 1938, this edition contains the original text and is unillustrated." I have both this and an older edition and didn't have to search for long...

Re: What Enid Blyton book are you reading right NOW!

There might be other nieces, maybe much younger or older than George so that they aren't interesting for the stories.
But maybe it's just a saying. Parents sometimes say "my favorite daughter" even if they have just one.

Re: St Clare's reread

I'm through with the last (original) book. Mamzelle chasing burglars is hilarious. But I wonder why there was a key on the outer side of the bathroom door... (I'm not too worried about the bolts in the caves in Valley of Adventure that have been discussed elsewhere - maybe the caves were used to shu...

Re: What makes you annoyed?

The only litter bins I know on public ground in my city are in the city center, at playgrounds and at bus stops. Of course I take my rubbish with me but not everyone does so. Especially some dog owners who would have to carry their little plastic bags for an hour or more if they walk around in the a...

Re: Famous Five TV Series 2023 - 2024, BBC

Often disabled people use expressions for themselves that aren't accepted if someone else uses them (for example in German some people who use a wheelchair call themselves "Krüppel" [cripple] - but I'd never call someone a cripple/Krüppel as I'm not affected by a physical disability myself).

Re: Famous Five TV Series 2023 - 2024, BBC

Just going off on a bit of a tangent, I notice the word dwarf seems now to be taboo - dwarves are always referred to as 'people with dwarfism'. I imagine Snow White's story will become Snow White and the Seven People with Dwarfism at some point. I wonder how far this style of speech will evolve, is...

Re: St Clare's reread

I've looked through the German edition and yes - they erased/changed everything about the "English sense of honour". It's been changed to things like honour (without English), being (ir)responsible etc. or that Claudine is different. The German edition I have available is a modern one. If ...

Re: The name 'Kirrin'

Delve in the Past is not the typical continuation FF book (as it is much more about the family than the very little adventure) but I like it.
I also like most of the other continuations both on the Society page and enidblyton.net. They're well written.

My earlier quote is from the mentioned continuation book, Bertie, on which that family tree is based.

Re: The name 'Kirrin'

You can find Find Delve into the Past on the society website , Bertie. @Mark: I once made a family tree too and will look for it to compare, unfortunately it has disappeared :) I remember that there was one contradiction in the story and l think it is this one: "Maybe we will," said Julian...
