Re: The Famous Five
I started reading them pretty much the same time as you, Jambo65, my first one was "Mystery To Solve" in approx January/February 1976, my dad bought it me "because it had a dog in it" Although I had the Knight editions, mainly illustrated by Betty Maxey, I got rid of them y...

Re: Musicals
I love musicals!! I've seen over 50 musicals and plays in both Sheffield and London. The one I've seen most often is Buddy, I still end up feeling wrecked at the finale even though I've seen it so many times. I also love Les Miserables, and also really enjoyed the film, although I thought Sacha Baro...

The Flame, by Cheap Trick. From their Lap of Luxury album. http://youtu.be/muhFxXce6nA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Interesting to note, that Cheap Trick's Lap of Luxury album is the first studio album to feature a 12 string bass guitar. Also, 8 and 12 string bass guitar...

Re: Who do you know with the name of a Blyton regular?
This is a good thread! Famous Five - One of my grandmothers was named Fanny (it didn't have the same connotations in 1901 of course) I have a cousin called Anne, and her husband is Richard (Dick Kirrin/Richard Kent) I had a great aunt called Georgiana which I guess is closest to a female George, and...

Re: Absence of bathrooms and loos
Unfortunately, as a child, I heard the expression "on the throne" in relation to visiting the bathroom, before I learnt its proper meaning...Ming wrote:Your queen's been sitting on it for sixty years.Moonraker wrote: funny we never see women on the throne...
Someone get her some fibre.

Re: 1970s Chocolate Bars
I've seen Caramac bars recently, in "Home Bargains" - I love them, I loved those Werther Caramel sweets which tasted like them, but they don't seem to do them anymore (Werthers, I mean) Fry's Five Centres with five different fruit fondant flavours (try saying that after a few beers  )...

I love "On The Trail" too.... the points thing has always stayed with me.
I also like "Well Done", the watching through a grating stuck too, for some reason, not to mention the potted meat sandwiches

Re: Your first and last Famous Five?
Interesting to read everyone's first and last Five...Five On Kirrin Island Again seems to have been a popular 1st book for many. Wonder if that edition sold in particularly large numbers? Ah,yes the long hot summer of '76.I associate that heat wave with Finniston Farm... when little,I thought the b...

Re: Absence of bathrooms and loos
I personally always wondered about how Mr. Roland and his friend managed in Five Go Adventuring Again when they were locked into a bedroom for a few days; Gazunder? Gazunder? They must have been given something like that - or perhaps Timmy supervised visits to the toilet. The room must have needed ...

Re: Your first and last Famous Five?
My first was "Mystery To Solve", I vaguely remember being in town with my Dad, and he bought me it "because it had a dog in it" although I don't remember actually asking for it. So of course, I had no idea that Anne wasn't always "a tiger" , and George is a lot mi...

A great track, Katharine. Just Like Eddie by Heinz is a tribute song to the great Eddie Cochran, who died in a car crash in 1960, aged just 21. Here is Eddie Cochran's Somethin' Else from 1959: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgQg4ze1_KU" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; There...

I'm sure you'll be fine, Icey, I think the worrying about it all beforehand is more frightening than actually getting there. All the best xx
