Re: The Famous Five - why are they so popular?
There is so much to love about the FF, but for me Books 8, 9 & 10 are absolute masterpieces - brilliant

Re: Favourite comic moments?
The whole ventriloquism bits in Strange Bundle are laugh out loud funny!
Also in Rilloughby Fair when Old Ma calls Snubby "Looney" and vice versa - a very funny section!

Least Favourite Enid Blyton Series?
Apologies if this thread is discussed anywhere else! What is your least favourite series of books? For me it has to be The Secret Seven, I have just never really enjoyed these. They are too many main characters to sustain; A megalomaniac leader; Most of the characters are very generic (the girls add...

Re: Chronology in the Mystery series (Five Find-Outers and D
I think that it is the same for most authors when they write series. I once read a study of Agatha Christie's handling of Hercule Poirot which pointed out that if you took the timelines literally, then Poirot would have been around 123 in the last book!

Re: Five on a Hike Together
Definitely one of my favourite books. Can I ask 3 questions?
1) Am I right in thinking that the Five are hiking through Dartmoor?
2) Is the prison mentioned, the one at Princetown?
3) What on earth does a 'wild-eyed fellow' look like?!
A great and very atmospheric book.

That Awful Susie!
Having got people thinking by discussing Julian, I'd like to move on to another EB character that is shamefully criticised in the books - "That awful Susie" - Jack's sister in the Secret Seven books. Having re-read these recently, I think that Susie is a fantastic character! She is a much ...

Julian
Now I know that Julian is not the most popular Blyton character, and he seems to get a bad press on these pages, so I would like to stick up for him! Having recently re-read books 8, 9 & 10 of the series (which I think are the best 3 FF books), I think Julian is outstanding in them all. His stan...

Re: Mystery of the Hidden House
I'm currently re-reading this book again and had forgotten how much I didn't like it. I don't think that the FFO cover themselves in glory at all. They are rude to Ern (simple as he may be); the false clues drive me mad (had they forgotten that they almost got innocent people blamed in 'Pantomime Ca...
