Re: Enid Blyton/Mary Pollock

Yes I think Enid used to be a popular woman's name, why she wrote under Mary Pollock I dont know - maybe to distance some of her writing from her already known writing, so her readers didnt make presumptions on the books context etc?

Re: My brain hurts

My head hurts! Space is always such a weird thing to think about, most of the time its just a terrifying thought, sometimes it is quite comforting.

Re: Agatha Christie

I used to love Agatha Christie when I was a teenage, particularly the Poirot ones, death on the Nile and the Murder of Roger Akroyd I would completely recommend.

Re: How many Blytons do you have??

They take up about 3/4 of a shelf, on my 5 shelf bookshelf, which is now completely full so I have had to start stacking books on the floor. They are mainly famous five and secret seven, since they were my favourites when I was younger.

Re: Last Song You Listened To

The song that is on my itunes and has come on just now is Sifjan Stevens 'For the Widows in Paradise, for the Fatherless in Ypsilanti'. Such a nice, relaxing song. I actually recently bought a tshirt with some of the lyrics written on it and I found this website you can buy great women's clothes.

Re: What other author are you reading at the moment?

I am currently reading Sunset Song, one of the Scots Quair trilogy, and probably Lewis Grassick Gibbons most famous work. I am really engrossed in it, the characterisation is great and the descriptions of the Scottish Highlands really vivid, the heroine Chris is a rival of Scarlet O'Hara and the lik...

Re: Which EB character would you..

Where I was little me, my sister and out 2 best friends used to play the famous 5 (we were only 4 and my sister was timmy, so I think Julian was the missing one), I have a really distinct memory of running round the church hall wearing a pink party dress playing the Famous 5. I was always Anne!

Re: Would you be seen reading a Blyton in public?

So I suppose they arnt THAT cool...but yes of course I would, because they are easy to read and easy to become completely immersed in, so it would take the boredom out of a long bus ride! And also now 'geek chic' is sort of fashionable, I think an enid blyton book might add to a hipster look anyone ...

Re: Famous Five and Secret Seven Sequels

I agree, there seems almost no way of bringing the famous 5 and secret 7 characters fully to life (although I suppose this is a hazard of any fiction written impersonating an author, because no 2 writing styles can be the same). All the TV adaptations/ recent publications I have seen have really fal...
