The railway Children is listed but rather surprisingly in the older teen section alongside Dickens and Swift.
it also has a Bagthorpe novel listed- my personal fave set of comic books

"1001 childrens books to read before you grow up"
I have just got this fab book for Christmas and there are two Blytons included (I know there should be a few more!!)
The Wishing chair and the first amous five are selected but no Noddy or Faraway tree which seems a serious exclusion. There are some great books listed though!

Re: Good Enid Blyton Winter/Xmas Reads!!
The ultimate Christmas read for me Is John Masefields Box of Delights - although I was given the BBC adaptation last year and found it a bit creaky- not as good as I remember!

Re: What's your Favourite Barney Book?
I think maybe because they were less availiable even in the seventies and less popular, I never really got into the Barney series and only really remember reading Rat a Tat and Rockingdown. I still have my Collind hardback with the helicopter.

Re: Did these girls deserve to be expelled?
I always thought it was a little unfair that Jo was thrown out as she seemed to have learnt from her mistakes at the end of the episode and it almost seemed to be the common Mr Jones who was being punished for his failure to respect class divides. Compare this with Jume whose "crime" was e...
Re: Kiki
even as a child I was never quite sure that Kiki would have been allowed on a scheduled airplane unless maybe in a cage. I had a pet budgie called bluey who was super tame and would ride on my shoulder all day in the house but regulary left little marks behind him. I also wondered what happened to s...

Re: Famous Five- The musical
I would love to go but a trip to London probably isn't feasible over Christmas.

Famous Five- The musical
A musical Famous Five show was advertised in this Saturday's Guardian Review, at the Tabard Theatre in London.
Has anyone heard of it or planning to go?
Is it a new play?

The stupid twins from secret trail, tinker when making his motorbike noise, Richard Kent until he gets in the boot, Moira and St Catherine, Lucian, the list could go on (having a grumpy day)

Re: Philip Pullman is not a Blyton fan, it seems...
The Pullman trilogy is a great piece of work - it isn't fair to compare with Enid- just because a novel is more sophisticated doesn't make it a better book. Enid's appeal is more about nostalgia and the recognition that she understands a childs (and often an adults mind) Yes her prose can be clunky ...

Re: First Enid Blyton books you read
I know that I had Noddy books as a little child but the first Blyton book that i remember making an impression on me as a reader was also Five Go to Billycock hill- wierd that 2 others also cite this book as nowadays I see it as a weaker FF novel. Small coincidence I guess

Re: Do any of you like C. S. Lewis?
I wonder how likely it is that the other books will be filmed. Prince Caspian did not do as well at the box office and Disney have pulled out of producing the Dawn Treader to be replaced by Fox. It will have to do well to get the fourth film greenlit especially as many familar characters will be abs...
