Re: The Forums - Images and Topics

Perhaps Tony thought that the images were taking up more space than they actually were? It’s a shame he doesn’t seem to post anything anymore. I’m sure a word from him would clear up the whole matter. It would certainly have prevented a whole load of speculation had the facts been checked before de...

Yes, the Beer & Pubs forum that I co-run is a phBB forum. At the top of the page is Manage Settings, click on that and ACP is first on the list.

Re: The Forums - Images and Topics

I was thinking that this thread title is quite applicable. the Troublesome Three possibly being Tony, Anita and Pete! Edit: The thread title has changed! Tony's reason for alerting Anita to the issue is likely to be for other reasons, not memory. I was wondering about that, too - especially as our o...

Re: The Forums - Images and Topics

I should have followed my own advice and copied my post. I went back a page or two to check something out, and the whole post has now disappeared. It was quite lengthy and I haven't the time or inclination at the moment to start again! :(

Re: The Troublesome Three 1955

I missed reading it at all! I hadn't realised it was only a limited time. I too am confused. I was going to read it on my iPad, where I read any stories or lengthier reviews on this website. If it was simply a review from the Cave, it can be read there, of course, which Pete's link takes us to. I m...

Re: Famous Five TV Series 2023 - 2024, BBC

...Sally Hope was played by Francesca Mills, who has dwarfism. Just going off on a bit of a tangent, I notice the word dwarf seems now to be taboo - dwarves are always referred to as 'people with dwarfism'. I imagine Snow White's story will become Snow White and the Seven People with Dwarfism at so...

Bertie wrote: 15 Apr 2024, 19:39 I clicked the link and see it's a continuation book (maybe by members of the EBS?)
It is written by Ilsa Cheeseman and Hans Christian Fath. Ilsa is a Society member (Daisy), I don't know about Hans.

No, old thing. No need to apologise. No, I just used Google translate to see what came up. Sorry for puzzling you!

Re: Famous Five TV Series 2023 - 2024, BBC

Thing is I have a daughter, who is missing her hand, and going into acting (though she'd prefer stage). So it is something I've wondered about: what about her going for a part, like Anne say, who we know from the book isn't missing a hand? I reached the conclusion that on screen, it would minorly i...

Yes, that was the reason. I never imagined my comment would provoke such a lengthy discussion. I felt as if I was in the Dock defending my post! I sometimes get the feeling that some forummers can't wait to jump in to correct somebody!

Re: Abba

Lillylops thinks that people who never liked ABBA must live a very sad life. Why? Maybe she is just a devoted fan! I must say, I never bought any ABBA singles or LPs and never really liked their songs, although some were quite catchy. I try not to question others' opinions, after all, we are all en...

Re: Abba

My guess would be that the mistake was somehow made by the publishers of the songbook. Yes, I am sure you are correct, Anita. I have looked up the lyrics and it is clearly "Welcome". Even if it was mispronounced (which seems highly unlikely), the songbook would have printed the correct ly...

Re: Famous Five TV Series 2023 - 2024, BBC

A brilliant post, Debbie, I agree totally with your thoughts. I also thought it extremely far-fetched where the woman walked the length of a busy train with a knife clearly visible in her hand. Absurd. The tom-boy aspect of George was downplayed almost to a minimum, and in any case, she was visually...
