Re: What Enid Blyton book have you recently bought?
Katharine, there is currently one of the books on eBay (1st Edition 1959) for £45 + dely. I went on there at about 7:45 pm which is when I saw that and there was also another of the same book, but not a 1st edition, and published by Brockhampton Press in 1966 (second impression) listed at £12 + del...

Re: What Enid Blyton book have you recently bought?
A pure fluke yesterday. I live in Lewes, East Sussex (I have yet to bump into Jennifer Thanisch, assuming she still lives here…) and went into Bow Books, an antiquarian bookseller. For the first time in ages they had something I was after. £40 but almost immaculate. The spine is a little discoloured...

Re: Famous Five adaptation on BBC
Oh, it’s so frustrating. It goes back to the main problem with a lot of TV adaptations that take too many liberties with the OT (such as anything by Agatha Christie in the last 20 years). If you’re not going to adapt it faithfully, why bother? Personally, rather than watch beloved classic square peg...

Re: What Enid Blyton book have you recently bought?
I adore the Adventure series. They’re still my favourites. I believe - although stand ready to be corrected - that the Piccolo editions are the last to feature the unrevised text. Certainly the ‘N’ word (and I don’t mean Noddy) is still liberally abundant in the Mountain chapter, The Face in the Tre...

Re: What Enid Blyton book have you recently bought?
Went to the Lewes Book Fair in the Town Hall today (it’s a 6 minute walk from my house, so the rain didn’t put me off). So glad I did as I picked these three up, virtually pristine, for £40! The Blyton gods smiled on me 😁 https://photos.app.goo.gl/iEmeNQ1w6V8US4CZA So now I have three complete sets ...

Re: Famous Five adaptation on BBC
Well, keeping a ‘brand’ going is uppermost in the minds of the companies that own the rights. Plus, of course, it’s easier to get something greenlit if there is an established brand connected. Especially if it’s ‘edgy’ or ‘progressive’. The bit that always gets me is when the screenwriter or produce...

Re: Famous Five adaptation on BBC
As far as I’m aware they haven’t actually said which book(s) they’re adapting. (Three 90 minute episodes based on Enid’s 21 books, they say. That’ll be challenging ) Or if they’re doing an original story. Stately Homes Gang, anyone? I’m torn now between wanting to give it a chance and...

Book protectors
Hello. I’m not sure if this is the right place for this question but… I’m looking for somewhere that sells the covers for dust jackets. I have several that need covers and not sure where’s best. Also, has anyone here done any research into the sizes required?

I also love the chunkiness. There’s something very satisfying about a really thick Blyton bookAnita Bensoussane wrote: ↑24 Jul 2023, 18:42The Adventure series is my favourite of Enid Blyton's adventure/mystery series, Paul, and Stuart Tresilian's illustrations are magnificent. I love the chunkiness of the Macmillan hardback editions.
