Re: Enid Blyton Day 2012

Just wanted to say that I too thoroughly enjoyed Saturday! It was lovely to see some familiar faces and some new ones too. I don't think I have much to add, other than to thank Tony as well, and also Pippa_Stef for the expert chair-stacking and the lift to the picnic and the station! :D Now to start...

Re: Enid Blyton Day 2012

Wow, this is shaping up to be quite a spread!

I will be bringing along my friend Dawn, and since there seem to be plenty of cakes we will bring something savoury and vegetarian (whatever the Tesco's at Paddington station has to offer!).

Looking forward to tomorrow :D

Re: Enid Blyton Day 2012

I gave my mother her programme today and she thought it was great. The train tickets arrived today, so that's travel and accomodation sorted now. I've spent much of the afternoon trying to work out the little details, such as train times from Henley to Twyford on Saturday and then from Henley to Bo...

Re: Readathon - Mr. Galliano's Circus

Thanks Anita for clarifying the current situation re animals in circuses - that makes sense. And you raise an interesting point about monkeys and parrots etc who have traditionally been kept as pets. I did see a rather disturbing documentary some time last year about people (in America) who essentia...

Re: Readathon - Mr. Galliano's Circus

Finally adding my 2 cents worth.... (I suppose I should say 2 pence!) Thanks for the clarification re the editions - I too thought that my pink-covered 1972 Dean edition was the original text, mainly because of the names of the dogs (I assumed that these would be the first things to be changed!) I q...

Re: Facebook

Just discovered The Enid Blyton Society and Julianity Facebook pages and duly "Liked" them :D

"Ask yourself: What would Julian do?" made me actually laugh out loud! Just as well I didn't discover these while checking Facebook at work... :D

Re: Journal Postal Increases

I just wanted to add my support and say that I think the journal is very reasonably priced, and will be happy to pay increased postage. I will be moving back to NZ towards the end of the year and will be happy to pay the increased overseas postage - we are used to paying a bit extra for magazines/jo...

Re: Very cross

Horrible as it is to find a dead bird (or worse, a dead rat or rabbit!) on your doorstep, I much prefer that to the half-dead ones. I'm never sure whether I need to put it out of it's misery or not - feel bad if I don't, or if i don't! :(

Re: Readathon Anyone?

I'm keen too! My favorite suggestion so far is also Mr Galliano's Circus. I haven't read this one since I was a child, and as Fiona mentioned, it's very topical and should make for some interesting discussions.

Re: Pub With Enid Blyton Connections Named One Of UK's Finest

With rather aching legs after our 5 hour walk, we stumbled our way into the Red Lion pub yesterday and enjoyed a pint (only one type of ale on tap? what's with that?!) in the Enid Blyton Snuggery :D Unfortunately, didn't make it to the model village, but as it's a rather easy train journey we might ...

Re: Pub With Enid Blyton Connections Named One Of UK's Finest

Thanks for the link Tony - and the recommendation Katharine. Maybe I should check it out - it looks like it's open until 5 so I might be able to squeeze it in (we are doing a 5.5 hour walk also!). I can always leave my partner to sample the ales in the pub while I go for a look.... :D
