Re: Auctioned book collection
A seller is currently listing Come to the Circus on eBay, the picture book story not the long book, as Enid’s rarest book. This is nothing new but for the sake of accuracy I feel I must point out that Julia did have a copy (the seller implies otherwise). Her copy was one which had belonged to Cherry...

Re: Merry Moments - esp. The Fairy Dustman, issue 152
It sounds as though it's another name for the Sandman of folklore. Yes, more of a “fairy dust” man, than Dustman! In Enid’s story “...the world became so full of exciting happenings that the children could not go to sleep at night.” Corovell, the Fairy, is able to provide the King with a fairy dust...

Re: Merry Moments - esp. The Fairy Dustman, issue 152
I have just noticed the music and words seem to appear in “Tales of the Fairy Dustman” later on in 1922 https://discover.libraryhub.jisc.ac.uk/search?q=The%20fairy%20Dustman&rn=5 A review of this text in May says: “A most fascinating book, entirely novel in conception, prepared by Puck, the Pain...

Re: Merry Moments - esp. The Fairy Dustman, issue 152
Hi Paul, No, Enid Blyton only contributed to Merry Moments. Newnes started the story paper in 1919 and Enid only began to contribute (it is believed) around the end of 1921. The “Fairy Dustman” was a well used terminology at this time and there are numerous references to songs/performances of playle...

Thanks Kate. That's kind of you to say. It's good to know a few of us are still keen to know more about these contributions.
Yes, the rat is hilarious.

Something else in the Cave you might like to compare is this 1945 uncollected story I've just added to the Sunday Mail

Re: Uncollected Pip the Pixie Stories in the Cave
I agree with you Anita. I thought exactly the same about Daddy Long Legs. I didn't know that either. As you say Enid always has something new to teach us. I know I don't often post on the forums but wanted to say I do appreciate Tony and yourself highlighting these further adventures of Pip. I alway...

Re: Cave of Books
I agree with you Kate. And the Nature Lover was quite progressive as it had a 'forum' of its own. Each issue included what would nowadays be discussions on these threads but back then were 4-6 pages under the header The Nature Lover Forum - News and views from our fellow readers. Readers in the 1930...

Re: Enid's Car
I've just found the registration number I remembered but by July 12th 1933 it seems Enid has changed her car as she describes a different colour. In her letter she is about to head off for that holiday in Scotland and she says: When you get this letter I expect I shall have started, so look out for ...

Re: Enid's Car
I'm pretty sure Enid does say when she buys her first car and during the early 1930s she often talks of her excursions. In 1931 as well as her car she owned a camera and added photographs to her Teachers World page until just after Gillian was born. There are a few pictures of Enid herself on these ...

Re: Elizabeth Tugwell
Elizabeth Tugwell's Tony puts her foot in it is apparently the first story in Nelson's Jolly Book for Girls if this helps. I wouldn't like to say what year this was printed but have seen it listed as 1940. Possibly there are other annuals like this with Elizabeth Tugwell stories in them? http://www....

Re: Let's Garden
There is a Wikipedia page for William McLaren which gives some background information on his life. This describes some of his other artwork as well as his book illustrating. I've certainly seen some history titles illustrated by him and a 1966 edition of Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. http://...

Re: Let's Garden
I agree with you Kate Mary about the range of Enid's writing. I have all three versions of this book and like all of them, but The Children's Garden is my favourite. I'm lucky enough to have both a 1st edition with a very good dustwrapper and my father's childhood copy. I remember recognising Bip Pa...

Re: Phyllis Chase
I can't say I've ever seen anything written about when Phyllis Chase died. She took part in a BBC radio programme in 1975 so she was still around then. Though listed as Phyllis Chase her married name was Phyllis Samuel. I don't know this for sure, (don't have a current subscription) but Ancestry rec...
