Re: Journal 71

Thanks as always to Tony for putting this together so well.

I always look forward to reading it here in Japan as it gives me a link to both my childhood and to the U.K.

Re: Malory Towers TV series

I look forward to this series (even though I'm not exactly a member of the target audience).

The writers seem very experienced and hopefully it will attract a new readership to EB's books.

Re: New Zealand Adventure/Secret Series

I agree that the Adventure Series is better than the Series Series. Partly because the Adventure books are also superior and partly because of some of the problems during production. I do think it was pretty amazing that they could even make those shows though. Financially it was a huge, huge undert...

Re: The Castle Of Adventure Film, 1990

Ah, yes. The funny thing about writing that article was that you realize that everybody involved had slightly different memories of the making and very often their memories contradicted each other. Apparently Susan George wanted to have time off to go to a party though, and when that was refused she...

Re: The Castle Of Adventure Film, 1990

I think it's the best single adaptation of a Blyton book and it's kind of amazing that they chose to make an 8 part series. I wrote an article for the journal about it a few years ago where about 20 members of the cast and crew agreed to share their memories. Why they were willing to speak to a nobo...

Re: New Zealand Adventure/Secret Series

For those who haven't watched it, I 100% recommend it. It won't disappoint at all. Also I found it interesting to read back on the articles in the 2016 EBS journals on the series. The only sad thing is I wished there had been 30 Adventure episodes at least... I agree that it's a good adaptation and...

Re: Journal 66

Tony looks to have done a great job with the journal as always.

I haven't been able to contribute to the last couple or to the board recently due to some personal disasters, but I hope to be active again in the future.

Yes, I am in a similar position as I am based in Japan.

With a bit of luck we might have them in time for Christmas though.

Good to hear that the journal will arrive soon and a nice and varied selection of contents as always. Well done to Tony for putting it together.

Re: Secret Seven Continuation Books by Pamela Butchart

I guess that I have mixed feelings about this... The purist in me would probably say that characters should be left as they are when the original writer passes away. On the flip side of that however, I have read and enjoyed continuation books involving Poirot, Jeeves, Bond etc. so can't really compl...

Re: Journal 63

Haha! Great, Pete! Incidentally, we watched Secret of Moon Castle (Cloud 9) yesterday - my grandson chose it. I wonder why Jack Trent left the Mannering household and skipped over to the Arnolds to be adopted? The plot also seemed to pinch some ideas from Mountain of Adventure , with people thinkin...

RIP Peter Sallis

Not unexpected, but still a sad loss. He was perfectly cast as Norman Clegg and helped Summer Wine to become one of the great sitcoms (yes, I know it then outstayed its welcome). He also showed himself to be a fine voice actor in Wind in the Willows and particularly Wallace and Gromit. It also speak...

RIP Roger Moore

Always one of my favourite actors and he made a great Bond for the 70s (the series had already turned to comedy with Diamonds are Forever, but Roger was much more suited to it than Sean).

He also showed what a fine serious actor he could be in The Man Who Haunted Himself.
