Re: Forumites Meet Up in July?

Just arrived back from holiday and caught up with posts and messages. There is obviously great disappointment that we can't guarantee the boat trip and therefore are looking at alternative arrangements. A Forum annual meet up needs to incorporate a goodly number and the drop-out numbers suggest the ...

Re: Forumites Meet Up in July?

Thanks Everyone for being so understanding. Will confirm numbers again later next week just to check all are on board (and may be others!).

Re: Forumites Meet Up in July - Change of Location?

Hi Everyone Just to say that I visited Marlow recently and checked out the Chequers pub - had lunch and all fine and also spoke to a boatman with Salters Steamers on the river about the boat trips. He advised me to call Salters Steamers to ensure the boats were running that day and advise them of ou...

Re: Forumites Meet Up in July?

Yes, hope you can join us next year, Katherine. Hopefully, others can also consider joining us nearer the time - Anita? Pippa-Steff? Tony? Nigel? I am hoping to get down to Marlow in early June to check out the pub and route to get the boat and make sure all is well - I don't need much of an excuse ...

Re: Forumites Meet Up in July?

Thanks everyone. I make it 12 so far and I expect others will join us. Hope you can too, Courtney, nearer the time.

Re: Forumites Meet Up in July?

Just read all your replies following a very busy week with no access to such pleasures as this Forum - shall we go with that then and aim for the Chequers in Marlow at 1200 followed by the boat trip at either 2.00 or 3.00 p.m. I may be down there in early June, which means I can check it all out in ...

Re: Forumites Meet Up in July?

Just spoken to the Chequers at Marlow and also Salters Steamers at Marlow and all very promising. The Chequers in the High Street has a bar area as well as a restaurant and also a private bar area - we can order food at the bar and arrive from 1200. Also dog-friendly Julie - dogs welcome in the bar....

Re: What Enid Blyton book are you reading right NOW!

I agree Francis - Mountain is very special for all the reasons you state; for me, the setting at the at the farmhouse with Bill joining the family on holiday for the first time (and his relationship with Aunt Allie clearly deepening), the Welsh setting, the animals, the sci-fic bit (very Bondish) an...

Re: Forumites Meet Up in July?

Thanks for your initial responses. I will do more research into pubs in Marlow and Maidenhead, given the support for the boat trip option. If anyone else wants to look at this as well, please go ahead. I am just keen to help get a really lovely day arranged for us all, whoever arranges it.

Re: Forumites Meet Up in July?

The Boulters Arms should read Boulters Lock....you can tell I am doing this in haste before going out - even pressed the submit button twice!

Re: Forumites Meet Up in July?

So sorry about the Ferry - Julie is right that reports on Trip Advisor suggest not so good. Their reports (if they are to be believed) are good on the Kings Arms - centrally placed towards the end of the High Street with parking at the rear. We need to consider the logistics of walking from station ...

Re: Forumites Meet Up in July?

Just to follow up with some ideas for our 2 July gathering. Personally, I agree with Francis it would be best to make it simple, easy for everyone to get to, a good pub and a chance to enjoy the lovely river where the Find-outers at least spent so many happy hours and invited us into their world. Tw...

Re: Forumites Meet Up in June?

I hope that Izzy will forgive us and it's very sweet of you Francis to offer to rearrange the outing. I suggest on that basis let's go for 2 July, which means Lucky Star can join us as well, and we can go from there. Apart from a boat trip/pub lunch or pub lunch and Blyton style walk - any other ide...

Re: Society Day in June?

Agree we could go on discussing and no date will suit all. Francis - I know you enjoy these outings - if we go for 2 July, will you still be able to join us? This means that Lucky Star can also come. If so, suggest we agree to go for that date and then work from there.
