Re: TV locations for the Famous Five series

Everyone would save a lot of trouble for themselves, and probably the random people they are contacting from 45 years ago, if they just asked me first. I dont have every answer but I do have quite a few answers. As a rule, I don't make an habit of contacting random people. For example, It was Jane ...

Re: TV locations for the Famous Five series

Ah, now then, that's the confusion with some things. I couldn't remember Mrs Travers first name and couldn't find the notepad I'd written it down in, either! I spoke to her over the phone and we had a good chat. Then, for some unknown reason, I totally let the momentum fizzle out and forgot to get b...

Re: TV locations for the Famous Five series

Sounds interesting, FFD! I know Mrs Travers, who I contacted in 2019, supplied the Horses for the two gypsy caravans, as seen in the Caravan episode. Assuming Peter from Dibden P supplied the two Caravans, then it may be feasible that Margaret could've supplied a few Horses and van to add to the Cir...

Re: TV locations for the Famous Five series

I agree, Julie. I love walking around Exbury Gardens. Even at busy times, you can easily find plenty of quiet spots to enjoy yourself. I've always found that the busiest places are in and around the Cafe area! In 2019, I visited the Gardens with Gary Russell, Tim and Oliver. We had a good wander aro...

Re: TV locations for the Famous Five series

Yep, Lepe Farm is not far from the Watch house, less than a mile. In fact, Lepe is a good starting point for a tour of the F5 locations. You've got all the places at Lepe beach, Lower Exbury Farm, Exbury village/gardens, Gatewood bridge/house and Blackwell common, plus other connected filming spots ...

Re: TV locations for the Famous Five series

You should be fine in June, Julie! I'm due in Dorset in the same month, way earlier than I usually visit. Hopefully, some kind of normality will return by then and we can all move around a bit more freely! :D I've heard that the Exbury Gardens team have been busy giving the grounds a bit of a tidy u...

Re: Football

Gutted for you, John! The Owls should've been 6-0 up at least by half-time. They played some decent stuff. I really thought they'd go on to win the game comfortably. However, once Luton equalised, the dark clouds gathered and you just knew that they'd go on to win it. Soul destroying. Rotherham at h...

Re: FF - Downhill after Hike?

The later F5 stories are indeed a little weaker in comparison to the earlier ones, but I still loved them when I was a kid. I've got a soft spot for Mystery to Solve, though. I re-read it several years ago whilst I was in Dorset. I visited the real life places that are described in the story, matchi...

Re: Football

Thanks, John. Yes, it was disappointing to concede a goal so late, especially against the Sheep! Plenty of points to play for, so I still don't think we're safe at the moment. Another few wins, then maybe. All it takes is to go on a losing streak and teams below us to start winning, then we a...

Re: TV locations for the Famous Five series

Thanks for the update, Tim. I read about Hurst Castle late last night, but I've yet to look at the BBC photo on their web page. It'll be very interesting to see how they repair the damage. These sort of things can be extremely difficult to sort out and cost a small fortune, too! :|

Re: TV locations for the Famous Five series

That'll be a lovely outing for you, Julie. If you've never been before, then be aware it can get very crowded at peak times in the Summer. Most people, though, are usually up towards the new-ish visitor cafe. It's a bit quieter along the beach near the Watch house and Lepe house. I hope you have a g...

Re: TV locations for the Famous Five series

Yes, I managed to have a wander round the back of Blackwater house in the Summer of 2018. The lady owner at the time, allowed me a free run around the grounds of the property. I did take some photos of the area where George is seen climbing down the drainpipe, but I'm not sure where they've ended up...

Re: TV locations for the Famous Five series

Mr Curton was sat on the West side of the Watch house. The first two pics were taken in 2020 and show the rocks covered over in pebbles, which wasn't the case the year before. The third pic was from about 2010-12 and shows the rocks exposed. This is were Mr Curton is seen sitting outside the house w...

Re: TV locations for the Famous Five series

To be honest, FFD, I've not took that much notice of the big rocks by the Watch house. I know they've been there for a while, but I couldn't be 100% sure if, and when, they were placed there or exposed by coastal erosion. I bet Tim will know. :D I think (but I may be wrong) that the interior shots i...

I think you're right, IceMaiden. Let's make it perfectly clear, though. We're talking about the Loony far left, the PC brigade, spoilers of ordinary people's enjoyment in any shape or form.
