Re: Do you guys like camping?
Hi, I just noticed your post, I love camping! I try to go as often as I can, which usually ends up being 2 or 3 times a year. For me it's the best type of accommodation you can have, although I have to make do with staying in hotels and cottages at times of the year when it's too cold to camp here i...

Re: Five Go Adventuring Again
I'm nearing the end of my seasonal re-read and I'm pleased to say I've enjoyed it as much as ever. I'd even go as far as to say it's one of my favourite Famous Five books in its own quiet, understated way!

Re: Mystery of the Hidden House
I'm currently part way through a Find Outers series readathon! I've never read them all in order before. With regards to Hidden House, although there are elements of it that make me feel uncomfortable (particularly Fatty's actions leading to Ern's caning) it's also one I have great affection for. I ...

Re: Mountain of Adventure
'Favourite starts' could be a great new thread if it hasn't been done already! I love the beginning of all the Famous Five books, that happy, holiday atmosphere before things start to happen!

Re: Mountain of Adventure
I've just finished a re-read of Mountain and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was better than I remembered. I don't mind the slow start as I often find I enjoy the opening chapters almost best of all- I love the period details and descriptions of what they eat etc! (I've even been known to ...

Re: The One Show
I missed this unfortunately, I'm usually a faithful watcher of The One Show too! I've had a quick search on Youtube but I don't think it's on there. If anyone recorded it and could put it on that'd be great!

Re: Pointless
My workmate told me about it so I just watched it on iPlayer. It's available till 5.59 pm on Tuesday 23rd July: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b017cr8j/Pointless_Series_5_Episode_44/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. It starts about 35 minutes in. It's frustrating as a ...

I loved Anita's article about Mr. Twiddle and had to stifle my laughter a couple of times whilst reading it on the bus!

Re: Hugh = Goon?
Another excellent blog entry, thanks. I'd say I was in the amused/open-minded camp after reading your book but I'm more convinced now. I feel a link seems likely, whether on a conscious level or just through the workings of Enid's 'undermind'. I also read Starlight recently and found it fascinating....

Fascinating stuff, thanks very much Duncan. I'm looking forward to reading further instalments. As Katharine said, it's heart-warming to see Enid portrayed as a good mother for once! And we all know what a crepon is now!

Re: Thoughts after re-reading A Childhood at Green Hedges
Interlibrary loan searches the whole country, there was definitely at least one copy available when I got it 1-2 years ago. I just searched something called http://www.worldcat.org/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and it says that 116 libraries in the UK have it!

Re: Thoughts after re-reading A Childhood at Green Hedges
On checking Amazon, the only copies available right now are at £25. I'm sure my mum only paid £10-£15. Sounds like you got a bargain there Fiona. The ones I watch usually go for about £25 - £30. Still, I live in hope I got hold of it through interlibrary loans, which was free for me as I work in a ...

Re: Enid Blyton Day 2012
Fiona, do you mind if I ask where you booked your tickets? I've just had a look at the spotted hanky web site and it seems a lot cheaper and with no restrictions. I'm always a bit wary if something seems too good to be true, there's normally a catch somewhere. Or maybe I'm just being cynical. I use...

Re: Enid Blyton Day 2012
I need a bit of help please. I will be doing some touring when in England and I believe it is better to book trains in advance to get better prices. Is this the case, and is it possible to book in advance from overseas? I have looked at some sites, but can’t quite make out how to get the tickets if...
