Re: Mr. Twiddle

Come to think of it, I've never read any actual Mr Twiddle books. But I'm familiar with the character in his two stories in Stories For Bedtime (this is going back many years now, but just fished out my old copy). One has him carrying his wife's hatbox home, except unbeknown to either of them, the c...

Re: Abba

Do you remember the Australian tribute band to ABBA, Bjorn Again? ABBA lookalikes who would sing songs from the said band. All well and good, but from what I remember at the time (and correct me if I'm wrong), Erasure covered a couple of ABBA songs. And so to 'get their own back', Bjorn Again covere...

Re: What Enid Blyton book are you reading right NOW!

I remember Five Fall Into Adventure was one of my very favourite Famous Five books on first reading, probably equal to Treasure Island . Except for the first two stories, I wasn't reading them in any particular order. But when I picked this one up a few stories in, I found it to be totally epic and ...

Re: Dad's Army

I've just been watching the first series of Dad's Army made in 1968, and it's very interesting to see the show finding its feet. It's a very charming moment to hear the studio audience actually laughing at the familiar title sequence in the first episode. We now think of a Union Jack arrow bouncing ...

Re: Abba

Yes, like the music of "The Piper" but find the lyrics a bit odd! I also like Super Trouper, Money, Money, Money, Fernando and When I Kissed the Teacher. While I don't listen to Abba much nowadays, I still remember many of their hits, which always bring back memories of my young days in t...

Re: What Enid Blyton book are you reading right NOW!

Valley was the first Adventure book I read, and I was only about eight! In fact, the only Enid Blyton books I had read prior to it featured the Wishing Chair and Mr Meddle! This was obviously going to be very different but I was up for attempting to read an adventure story with children. When I fir...

Re: Abba

I knew Eagle from a young age because Mum had Greatest Hits Volume 2 (on vinyl no less). ABBA is one of those bands from my childhood like the Bee Gees, Showaddywaddy and Status Quo that straddled the point between before my time, and songs I actually remembered. I think I remembered The Name of the...

Re: James Bond

First one I ever saw on television was Dr No , although it was more of a moving background. First one I ever saw at the cinema (when I'd have only been ten) was Octopussy , and I loved it! I was clearly too young to understand the story and Cold War stuff, but the action was good enough for me! And ...

Re: Which Film(s) Have You Seen Recently?

I recently watched Carry On Sergeant. Not because I was particularly in the mood for Carry On that day, but rather I just wanted an idea of what National Service would have been like back in the day. I presume it wasn't entirely true to life, but it was actually quite heart warming.

Re: What Enid Blyton book are you reading right NOW!

Almost to the end of the book, Bill and Philip are going to walk through the secret passage under the sea towards the island. It started some way down the well. It is very scary and frightening 🫣, imagine the restless sea water booming above your head, thinking if a hole suddenly appeared in the se...

Re: An in depth study of Pam and Barbara (Secret 7)

More observations on these two by Hari Menon: Pam : One of the two gigglers in the club. Perhaps her sole contribution to the club is when she "interviews" her grandmother in Three Cheers Secret Seven (and misspells the word "absolutely" in the process). [/i] That was the one mo...

Re: R.I.P. Steve Wright - BBC Radio Presenter.

Although I hardly listen to the radio, Steve Wright was an absolute giant for me in my appreciation of old popular music because he was the long term presenter of Top of the Pops II in the 1990s.
