Re: The Naughtiest Girl Series
I'm surprised there are so few Naughtiest Girl books compared to St Clare's/Malory Towers. Does anyone know if they were less popular during Enid's lifetime?

Re: Malory Towers TV series
I enjoyed the second series, notwithstanding the inclusion of the Treasure Hunters plot (were they aiming at a younger audience?). They have got the child characters exactly right. Gwen was superb, exactly as I imagined her from the books. Darrell, Sally, Alicia and Irene are also very good. The adu...

Re: Food in Blyton
One other point - several books refer to 'potted meat' sandwiches. Is this tinned ham/corned beef or some form of preserved meat?

Re: Food in Blyton
What strikes me about food in Blyton books is the sheer volume. Three or four meals a day, cooked breakfasts, 2 or 3 course lunches, teas and dinners, and plenty of snacks and ice creams. In the Mystery of the Strange Bundle, Fatty has porridge followed by sausages and toast for breakfast, a 3 cours...

Re: Malory Towers TV series
I've watched all the episodes and I think it is really excellent. Yes they have played with the plots but all adaptions of books for film/TV do that. The portrayal of the main characters - Darrell, Gwen, Sally, Mary-Lou, Alicia - is outstanding. Although the stories have been modified they all behav...

Faraway Tree
Merged with an older topic.
There were media reports a few years ago that a film would be made of the Faraway tree books. Does anyone know anything more about this?

Health certificates
In the Malory Towers books the girls have to bring a 'health certificate' at the start of each term. Does anyone know what this involved? Did they need to have some kind of medical examination each term before they could come to school? Were there particular concerns about any infectious diseases at...

Did Enid ever fly?
Merged with an earlier topic. According to Barbara Stoney's biography, Enid based many of the parts of her books situated overseas on her own travels, specifically her Mediterranean and US cruises. A number of her books, specifically the Adventure and the Secret series, involve travelling by plane ...

Re: Oddities in 1996 Secret series adaptation.
I've just watched the Secret Island version of this series on Youtube. I was not impressed. The main positive was the great scenery. The island and surrounding countryside are in line with my memories of the book. The children's uncle and aunt were good as was the portayal of Jack. The characters ar...
