Re: Last Song You Listened To
Here is my favourite Beatles track, Anna (Go To Him) from their first album, Please Please Me from 1963. John Lennon is at his absolute best on lead vocals. Superb.

Yes, I like that song Eddie and I love John singing 'Soldier Of Love' too.

I also love John singing Soldier of Love, Pete.
Yes, Anna is a great song with fab vocals, Number 6. It’s not Beatles original, but I much prefer the way they do it.
Both Soldier of Love and Anna ((Go To Him) were originally recorded by Arthur Alexander.

Here is the original version of Anna (Go To Him) by Arthur Alexander from 1962:

From Wikipedia’s entry on Arthur Alexander:
Arthur Alexander (10 May 1940 – 9 June 1993) was an American country songwriter and soul singer. Jason Ankeny, music critic for Allmusic, said Alexander was a "country-soul pioneer" and that, though largely unknown, "his music is the stuff of genius, a poignant and deeply intimate body of work on par with the best of his contemporaries." Alexander's songs were covered by such stars as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Otis Redding, Tina Turner, Bobby Vee, Brenda Lee and Jerry Lee Lewis. He died aged 53 following a heart attack.

I was treated to this on Classic FM earlier today — Bogoroditse Devo (the Russian Orthodox "Hail Mary") from Rachmaninov's All-Night Vigil. Incredibly beautiful piece of music. I learned it (as a first alto) in a choir back in Melbourne, but I doubt we produced as heavenly a sound as this version from King's College.

Re: Last Song You Listened To
Met up with an old friend for a coffee on Sunday afternoon. This was supposed to be a business meeting & a catch up after years of not seeing each other, but it was very hard going. She's a very nice lady & a lovely friend, but boy is she argumentative or what! If I say Black, She'll say White, etc. She never lets me get a word in edge ways & insists on me hearing her views...& yes, she's always right..even when she's wrong! Despite this, she's still a lovely lady.
I dedicate this song to her, which sums us up! The Beatles.. Hello, Goodbye!

Blimey! I've not heard that particular Joni Mitchell song for a while, Pete! I used to hear it most days when I was working with one her biggest fans!

A real shame, Eddie! Always sad to see such icons pass away.
