Thanks everyone! Finn is a little star. I've had him since he was eight & half months old. He'll be ten this December. How time flies! :D

Ahhh..bless! It's great when they still play about like mad things. I do miss that with Finn. He'll occasionally have a mad moment, then he needs a lie down! Time has caught up with him.

Same here, Chrissie! I'd love a bit more energy at times. I used to take Finn on long day walks over moors, through woodlands & along old disused railways. He'd be running around like a mad thing throughout the walk, then still have energy to play ball when he got home. Whereas me, I'd have jelly legs for the rest of the day! :D
I miss those days now that he's older & doesn't go walking too far. He kept me fit & active. :|

That's why we finally decided to get a dog when we turned 60. We wanted to get into better shape.
As I have back problems since 2007, I didn't want a small dog (couldn't lift him up), so we fell in love with White German Shepherds, e-mailed a lot with a dozen breeders and really tried to get as much information beforehand as possible.

However, we under-estimated HOW much energy they have (Cody can play for hours with his squeaky toys and wants us to participate) and how keen they are to go for walks. At least two half hour walks per day the books say.
Sometimes while we have thunder and lightning outside and cannot take him for a walk, Cody still picks up his leash on the little table in the hallway, comes to me with a wagging tail as if he tries to say: "Why don't we go for a walk now?" :D

Well, meanwhile we walk a lot more than we used to (actually both of us love to read, are big movie buffs and not very athletic people, so making time for a walk always means giving up watching half a DVD...even though we are aware it's good for our declining health  ), so our dog definitely is a blessing, otherwise we wouldn't walk most of the time.
Plus New England summers are very hot and humid (only my husband who grew up in this climate walks the dog early in the morning before 6 a.m., but he refuses to go for another walk at night, it's just too humid). We have a fenced-in garden behind the house and let Cody outside as often as he wants.

January/February have way too much snow and the side walks are often too icy/slippery to walk, because many of our neighbors are rather unwilling with sanding or throwing salt on their part of the side walk.
But from September on pretty much until Christmas we can go for many walks, all three of us. :D

Update on my fish!

My little girls betta fish (Siamese fighting fish) was very naughty and after a stern telling off now lives on his own in a nice smaller tank of his own where he is much happier and no longer has tankmates to show off to or to try and eat.

Also added 6 endler guppies to the main tank and a male normal guppy and 3 females

Here's a story I ran across that just made me smile... meet Anakin the cat, who was born with only two legs but runs and climbs and plays just as happily as his four-legged siblings! :D
