The Cuckoo in the Clock - Two Versions

Post by pete9012S »

How many versions of this story are there? I found at least two, plus a poem.

Here's two excerpts from The Holiday Books.

The Cave lists a lot of books and magazines this title has appeared in.

I wonder which version the above enquirer is referring to?

I have looked more thoroughly at this book, Pete, and I actually have an image of it on my computer, but as he says it was published in 1947, but apparently only in America! I would like to confirms that it is the right story before I even consider putting it in the Cave as I don't know of any other American books that Enid contributed short stories to - or even any other Simon & Schuster books for that matter.

Yes,I agree Tony - I think it's a story with the same title written by a different author:

The Golden Christmas Book 1947

Contains " The Cuckoo In The Clock" by Gertrude Crampton

Sounds like a sweet little story even though it's not one of Enid Blyton's.

Yes,and perhaps possibly conveniently out of copy-write for Jeri Fry too?

When I read the message, I immediately searched for Golden Christmas in The Cave but could not find the book. I was confused by Barney's reply then. Thank you so much, Pete for clearing the confusion.

An interesting thought, but according to Wikipedia Gertrude Crampton died in 1996:

I think copyright in the USA lasts for 50 years after an author's death, so her work won't be out of copyright until the end of 2046. The copyright holders may well be happy for someone like Jeri Fry to use the story just for a few days as part of a promotion, though I'm not sure how far in advance permission would have to be sought.
