Which place would you suggest, Nigel?

In my wife's works which is a rest home, they charter or hire a canal boat for the residents (around thirty people) and are taken on a nice relaxing cruise on the canal for the day.

They are given a nice meal and drinks/refreshments and they all absolutely love it.
I wondered if we did something like that either on a canal or the Thames and all brought our unwanted Enid Blyton books to swop or sell with each other whether that would appeal?

Enid's characters loved boats and going on adventures/cruises with them. The boat may even alight at a nice pub or two along the way giving the chance to stretch your legs etc...

Just a suggestion, the first that came into my head...sorry if it sounds daft! :D

Pete, I absolutely love that idea...too bad we can't join.
Your photo montage really made me laugh very hard.
So this was not a day wasted according to Charles Chaplin :) :) :)!

Brownsea Island sure sounds gorgeous!
Or Corfe Castle Village with lunch at Oliver's Bistro not far from the Ginger Pop Shop.
Oliver's Bistro was used as the antiques store in the 1957 version from "Five on a Treasure Island".

Katharine wrote: Pete, I'm going to Dorset this year for a week, I'm definitely planning to visit Corfe Castle, and as many other Enid Blyton related places as possible. I'd better put Brownsea Island on the list.
In case you've seen "Five on a Treasure Island" (1957), I can recommend to visit the Jurassic Coast with Durdle Door and Stairhole Cove.
Lulworth Cove must have been EB's inspiration for Kirrin Bay.
There is a house when you walk back from Stairhole Cove to the car park which has a thatched roof and looks a lot like Kirrin Cottage.

Chrissie777 wrote: Maybelline is one of the cheapest cosmetic companies over here. They sell it at Wal*Mart. I wonder if they sell their stuff for twice the price in the UK?
To be fair, Maybellinne in this country would probably be classed as 'cheap' by most people, their foundations are about £9, their eyeliners are £5, their primer is about £9, but to me that is really expensive, I don't have enough money for that, I stick with the cheaper Superdrug-exclusive brands where the eyeliners and lipsticks are £1 and the foundations and primers are about £2-£3! :)
They're actually quite good quality products as well, the primer I have is by a Superdrug brand called 2-True and I got it for £2.50 and it's excellent! My lipstick is MUA (Make Up Academy) which is another Superdrug exclusive, that cost £1 and is the creamiest lipstick I've ever owned, and a lovely nude colour. :)

I remember seeing Too Faced online and the reviews were excellent, shame it's a bit out of my price range. :(

I know just what you mean about dark hair, my natural colour is dark brown but it just doesn't suit me! :) I'm not especially pale but every photo of me with my natural hair just looks too harsh on me. So I highlight my own, and it's about million different shades of blonde now because of layers upon layers of highlights over the years, and I love it like that. :)
Yes you have to be very careful when your hair has red pigments and you're home-dyeing, it's so easy to get orange hair, especially when you're dyeing it blonde. :)

As we have a make-up/toiletries thread, why is it being discussed on this one?

To be honest, I'm not a lover of miniature railways! It was the Southern TV connection that I thought would be of interest, mainly.
Cathy wrote:I'd have to get the train to Southampton and then the ferry to Hythe, then it says you should get a taxi, but I'm thinking I could bring my bike and cycle from Hythe to Exbury, it's only 6 miles, wouldn't take long!
Or you could get the train to Salisbury, then travel with us in the car! (always assuming I can make the event)

Many a true word spoken in jest, Katharine! :D

Unlike a few of you here, I am a lover of the old SatNav. It must be remembered though that it is a guide and should be followed with discretion!

I've got Google Maps on my phone so I'll have that to hand in the car and if Nigel's sat-nav gives us a questionable instruction I will be able to double-check it on my phone and see if we're going the right way. :)

I too like the sound of Exbury and would do my level best to get there depending on work etc. is this something that's definitely being arranged or is it just idle speculation for next year?

I am hoping it will be this year as I am desperate to make it to some gathering.
