The Famous Five Club

Postby Julian » 16 Aug 2006, 21:34

My mother recently bought me an old set of Famous Five book from eBay. They mention The Famous Five Club at the back but I cannot find any information about it? How can I join it? And is it still in existence?

I was also extremely surprised that some of the Famous Five books had their dust-jackets missing...

FF Club

Postby Neasa » 17 Aug 2006, 00:15

Hi Julian. Yes there was a famous five club, but i don't think its still 'in existence', although i could be mistaken. It was formed so fans of ff could recgocnise each other.

The Famous Five Club raised funds for the little Children's Home in Beaconsfield, which cared for deserted children. there was a club badge with the faces of the famous five on it. Badges do sometimes come up on ebay. They're nice little items to have!

It was formed in September 1952. Hope this helps!!

I'm sure I read in one of EBs books - maybe Book of the Year? - that if she ever saw a child wearing one of the club badges (and there seemed to be a club for everyone!) she would go up and speak to them............anyone know if this really happened?

I have some copies of Enid Blyton's Magazine, published in the 1950s, in which Enid Blyton mentions in her editorials that she has spotted children in the street wearing badges (for the Famous Five Club, Magazine Club, etc) and has stopped to talk to them.

She would probably be reported to the police if she did that today! :(
