Pete, I absolutely love that idea...too bad we can't join.pete9012S wrote:
In my wife's works which is a rest home, they charter or hire a canal boat for the residents (around thirty people) and are taken on a nice relaxing cruise on the canal for the day.
They are given a nice meal and drinks/refreshments and they all absolutely love it.
I wondered if we did something like that either on a canal or the Thames and all brought our unwanted Enid Blyton books to swop or sell with each other whether that would appeal?
Enid's characters loved boats and going on adventures/cruises with them. The boat may even alight at a nice pub or two along the way giving the chance to stretch your legs etc...
Just a suggestion, the first that came into my head...sorry if it sounds daft!

Brownsea Island sure sounds gorgeous!pete9012S wrote: I would love to go to Brownsea Island, but obviously we need a day that accommodates everyone and also that appeals to everyone too!
In case you've seen "Five on a Treasure Island" (1957), I can recommend to visit the Jurassic Coast with Durdle Door and Stairhole Cove.Katharine wrote: Pete, I'm going to Dorset this year for a week, I'm definitely planning to visit Corfe Castle, and as many other Enid Blyton related places as possible. I'd better put Brownsea Island on the list.

To be fair, Maybellinne in this country would probably be classed as 'cheap' by most people, their foundations are about £9, their eyeliners are £5, their primer is about £9, but to me that is really expensive, I don't have enough money for that, I stick with the cheaper Superdrug-exclusive brands where the eyeliners and lipsticks are £1 and the foundations and primers are about £2-£3!Chrissie777 wrote: Maybelline is one of the cheapest cosmetic companies over here. They sell it at Wal*Mart. I wonder if they sell their stuff for twice the price in the UK?
To be honest, I'm not a lover of miniature railways! It was the Southern TV connection that I thought would be of interest, mainly.John Pickup wrote:Did you pick this venue because of the train, Nigel?
Or you could get the train to Salisbury, then travel with us in the car! (always assuming I can make the event)Cathy wrote:I'd have to get the train to Southampton and then the ferry to Hythe, then it says you should get a taxi, but I'm thinking I could bring my bike and cycle from Hythe to Exbury, it's only 6 miles, wouldn't take long!
Many a true word spoken in jest, Katharine!Cathy, you might want to take a map with you though.
