As you know (you Ming, are being deliberately awkward), the term 'old' in Blytonia doesn't necessarily appear in its literal meaning. As for Jane, she is only too grateful to be with me when I allow her to accompany me. I don't let her out that often.

I was re-reading "Shock for the Secret Seven" yesterday, and I came across this passage on pg. 8, which reminded me of your exchange:
Peter says, "Jolly good, old girl," to Janet. And she immediately replies, "Don't call me 'old girl'. I keep on telling you not to. You sound like Uncle Bertie. He always calls Auntie 'old girl'." A suitably chastened Peter calls Janet 'young girl' in the next sentence. Looks like even the junior Blyton characters do sometimes resist the 'old' tag. :D

Ironic really. Old Peter actually says something nice for a change, and then gets blown up for it.

Where is Loddon Hall, I may try and come... If it is near by

They look the same but are pronouced differently.

Reading is usually pronouced Reding (little A sound and more emphasis on the E)

Reading has a more Eeee sound. Like Reeding. Yes?

"So my Mother told me that when I was two years old!" said Julian and the others giggled.

Are you suggesting Icecream has a "wee brain", Ming?! Fancy saying such a thing about a "wee bairn"!
