If everyone is having trouble hearing, then I think we should repeat all those E.B. Days, just in case some of us have missed anything!
How about votes!

No thanks. I only start things I can complete!Julie2owlsdene wrote: You can be roped in too!
I always watch films with subtitles. A lot of DVDs I buy don't have subtitles, so I download them from Subscene. The volume isn't always the problem for me, it's usually the speed of talking, or the speaker's accent. Funnily enough I never need subtitles while watching TV shows (I am a regular watcher of Community, Downton Abbey and used to love Desperate Housewives), I find the sound extremely clear and audible. I think the sound mixers of TV shows are just better than those that work on films!Anita Bensoussane wrote:I quite often watch with the subtitles turned on, especially if others are in the room doing other things and there's a bit of background noise.... I've always put the blame on the film-makers, especially those responsible for sound. However, the last DVD I watched didn't say "Subtitles" as usual - it said "Subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing". It's as though they were saying, "It's not our fault if you can't hear the film properly - the problem lies with your ears!"
Actually I'm not sure - maybe I'm suffering from amnesia as well as hearing loss! I think the films I've watched most recently on DVD have been An Education, The Iron Lady, We Bought a Zoo and Mickybo & Me, so perhaps it was one of those.Ming wrote:What DVD was that, Anita? I think I might be hard of hearing.
