The Enid Blyton Society

A question on the homepage about this got me intrigued. I wish I could come, but it's so far away.

Sorry you can't come to the Enid Blyton Day, Philip. I know it must be frustrating but maybe you'll be able to make it sometime in the future? Those of us who are lucky enough to go will of course post accounts of the day and photos (as we have done for the last few EB Days) to give people an idea of what went on.

Yes it's frustrating.... Very frustrating. As for coming sometime in future, I'll have to see.... I'm going (hopefully) to Saudi Arabia (where my father works) for a holiday in April, but I don't think I could manage two different journeys. Yes, I know what happens at these Days, that's why I'm so frustrated at not being able to come! I read the accounts of the 2008 and 2007 Days, and I was envious of you all. When will I come and enjoy that? Possibly (and not probably!) sometime in the (hopefully) not-too-distant future.....

At least you've got plenty of time to make yourself a Noddy or Saucepan Man outfit to wear on the Day!

Hope you can make it to the Enid Blyton Day sometime in the future, Philip - I have been there in 2007 and enjoyed every minute of it. The accounts of the 2006 Day intrigued me and I just had to see for myself! It was even better than I thought it would be.

I wonder when I can next attend the Day - most probably not before a few more years!! It would be lovely to see everyone again.

From Spain, What could I do?
Fly to London o is there another way?
Is a good idea to rent a car?

Whether it's worth renting a car depends on how long you're planning to stay in Britain and whether you intend to visit other places. Within London, you can buy travel cards which allow you to travel on the Underground (Tube), buses and trains in the city. Getting around London by car isn't easy. The journey to Twyford wouldn't be covered by the travel card but it only takes about 45 minutes by train to get from London (Paddington Station) to Twyford. Loddon Hall is a 15 minute walk from Twyford Station.

The idea is go to Enid Blyton Day and visit Dorset (the Famous Five book´s scenarios?)
Then, perhaps is a good idea travel to London and go in train and to search an hotel near the place where the event is celebrated.
Where is exactly the site?

I'm afraid I've never stayed overnight in/near Twyford but it would probably be best to book accommodation in advance. Perhaps someone here can help with suggestions?

There are numerous airlines that fly to the three London airports from Spain, but other destinations to be considered are Bristol or Southampton. London Heathrow is only 20 miles from Twyford, but is probably the most expensive to fly to.

There are hotels in Twyford but they are very expensive, there are however, numerous b&b's that offer hotel quality accomodation at a more sensible price. This list may help.

Renting a car would give you more flexibility compared to public transport, although the 100 mile drive to Dorset may be somewhat tiring on the South of England's very crowded roads! The journey time by road or rail would be about 2¾ hours.

A wise decision I think. I am a great advocate of rail travel, but the journey from Twyford to Dorset involves several changes of train, hence the long journey time. The journey by road to say, Corfe or Swanage should not be too difficult, traffic levels are usually quite moderate during May. Driving around the Isle of Purbeck in August is another matter though, the congestion is incredible.

If sightseeing in London then do not take the car, Twyford has a frequent rail service to/from London Paddington. http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/
