Just looked through the contents page of the forthcoming Journal 61

I have to say there are already three or four articles and stories that I am immediately drawn to and I look forward eagerly to receiving the Journal when it is ready.

That's a lovely cover!!! Can't wait to get it!!!

I remember being taught the difference at school, but unfortunately can't remember what they said now.

I am taught at school that "effect" is the noun and "affect" is the verb. Our English teacher repeated it a lot so that we could get it. I find it easy to remember, but I have to say it's quite tricky!!!!
I really can't wait for the journal, it'll be a wonderful Christmas treat!!

After taking a look at my German-English/English-German dicitionary and the examples they used, it seems to me that to affect has a rather negative meaning while to effect a rather positive one.

The link Courtenay gave explains things well.

The verb "affect" means to have an effect on; to make a difference to; to touch the feelings of.

The verb "effect" means to produce; to accomplish; to bring about.

Daisy is correct that it should be "both you and Courtenay are affected by errors" because the Journal errors have an effect on/make a difference to Rob and Courtenay.

The Journal errors don't produce/accomplish/bring about Rob and Courtenay.

As I said, I took a look at the examples they used.
"The disease only affects cattle" - negative meaning
"affect health" - negative meaning
affect = feign, also usually a negative meaning
But is also says it could used for like (e.g. he affects fancy outfits) or for move (I was deeply affected by the film).

They used to effect in context with breakthrough, change, cure...

Looking over the list of articles I don't know whether to go to the three or four that intrigue me the most,or just plough through the Journal in chronological order.

I am looking forward to Julie's article about her fave Find Outers Book.I can't think which one it will be.
Collecting Enid Blyton by Don Townsend sounds like a good read.

I thought at first that this was a Journal without a contribution by Rob,but a quick double check confirmed we have one of his usual excellent articles to look forward to reading too.

The Christmas Book article takes my interest too.I have a paperback version, but a reasonably priced hard-backed edition still eludes me.They always seem to put the price up for this one on ebay etc in the run up to Xmas,sorry CHRISTMAS,Nigel.

Finally,I notice at the very end a reference to the Famous Five 'Adult Books'....
I may have ordered one of these in error on my kindle late at night as I pressed the 'reserve your copy ' button by mistake.

Not sure whether to let the order go through as it was only for about £3.99.Not sure which of the 'adult books' it was though.May just have a surprise and find out when it downloads...

Anyway,enough about me.Which articles are you all looking forward to most?
