Exactly!!!
It seems modern children books publishers don't realize that.

I think I started something with my comment, lol! Obviously, I don't want realism as such...I think you'll be able to tell that from my Narrowboat story, lol! ;-) However, I think I was just surprised how many people liked the part in this Secret Seven book where the dog guards the children all night. I never found it very exciting and even found it a bit dull!

Meanwhile - back on topic - I've really enjoyed the latest Journal and read it cover to cover with great relish! Sometimes I don't read absolutely every article, but this time I did - and they were all very well written and very enjoyable. Well done to all contributors, and also to Tony who of course nails it all together to make a sea-worthy vessel! 8)

I don't know if I am the only person, as nobody else has mentioned it, but I am sure I am seeing a man's face on the cover of Journal 60. If you go to the furthest right poppy and go up to 2 o'clock. I am probably just imagining it, but I haven't been on the bottle or anything!

Can anyone post a scan of the cover? I can find every Journal except number 60!

Oh yes, now I can see the face too (thanks for pointing out which way it's looking, Rob)! :D Balding, and somewhat downcast-looking. Bill Smugs fallen on hard times?

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

It's actually easier to see on that scanned version above than on the actual printed cover (which I have in front of me), oddly enough!

That's what I thought about Tony and Rob too, Julie, until I saw it myself! (Anyway, you know I don't drink wine.)

Here it is, or at least the one I'm seeing... maybe Tony and Rob are seeing something completely different?? :D

Courtenay, now I can see it. It looks almost like a baddie face from Eileen A. Soper to me.
