Personally I think Kiki should have been replaced by a puffin...and Loony...and Timmy...

hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

I don't think Kiki should be replaced by a puffin. I mean, puffins don't talk, do they?

swatimeant! ;-) As I'm not a big fan of Kiki even puffins are preferable! ;-)

Wow! While I'm not usually a big fan of the anthropomorphisation of animals, I do find Kiki and Miranda (and to a lesser extent Buster, Timmy and Loony) to be some of Enid's best characters. I couldn't imagine the 'Adventure' books without Kiki. For me her antics are a huge part of what makes the series so enjoyable and memorable.

I admit that what I said was maybe a bit flippant - Kiki can be quite entertaining, and as an adult, I like her better than as a child.

I only read 'Island' 'River' and 'Mountain' as a child, and I think Kiki had a big leaning on me not reading any more until I was well into my 20's. It's strange because I'm much less irritated by Buster, Miranda, Loony and Timmy although Miranda's antics also get on my nerves occasionally. :-)

I like Loony. Pinching hair brushes and tearing about at a hundred miles an hour, he's the one dog in Enid's stories that I can see when I read about him.

When I first read the Barney Books, and read about Looney, I didn't realize that dogs could be so 'active' in their play never having had a dog before.

But Looney is one of the dogs I see now that is like many other dogs in play. Morgan is almost a replica to Looney, stealing my brushes and taking them outside etc!

Julian gave an exclamation and nudged George.
"See that? It's the black Bentley again. KMF 102!"
