Depends where you advertise. If you advertised in The Malcolm Saville Society publication then the advert would be reaching mainly older, retired people who would seem to be our most perfect target audience.Tony Summerfield wrote:It is also a reason why I am not keen to advertise the Journal as the most likely outcome is just getting more subscriptions for children.

I wonder how many people are members of both societies? I am and Nigel is but I don't know of any others. It could be a good idea to advertise in their journal.

Well, our Facebook 'page' has 'liked' the MSS page, so there is a connection!

Re: Journal Jitters
Perhaps it would be best to say on the subscription page that the society is aimed at adult enthusiasts and collectors. Doesn't help with the numbers of people subscribing or renewing but at least it avoids the problem of parents/grandparents thinking that the Journal is a children's publication.

It's taken me since the summer journal came out but I've finally resubscribed for the winter one!

Well, I did encourage a friend of mine who loved Enid Blyton as a child to join the Society...so that's one more!

What about including a few sample articles on a couple of subjects the Journal has covered over the years on the subscription page?
It would show prospective subscribers exactly what sort of content the Journal includes.

Yes, I agree that specifying that the magazine is for adults is key. If that were done in any possible advertising then I can`t see where any problem could be.

Why are we bothered about this? If people don't resubscribe, at least the Society gets a year's subscription off them.

Re: Journal Jitters
I tend to agree. I got a friend interested enough to subscribe for a year the other day. Even if he doesn't resubscribe, at least it was a year's subscription! On the other hand, we may be missing quite a few first time subscribers because they think it's aimed at children!

I agree too. We would seem to need all the subscriptions we can get regardless of who they come from and why they are taken out.

I took it from what Tony was saying that at the moment he doesn`t want to any (or little advertising). If it were possible to do some advertising that clearly explained what the journal is about and who it is aimed at then that must be better than nothing.Moonraker wrote:Why are we bothered about this? Re: Journal Jitters
I am sorry to have to say that Journal 57 is now completely sold out. I have always based the print run on how many subscribers I have when I send the Journal to the printers and I add 50 to this figure for the benefit of new subscribers and there are normally about 30 of these. Unfortunately on this occasion there has been a large number of people still subscribing to Journal 57 who received reminder notices 6 months or more ago.
Journal 58 will be going to the printers shortly, but sadly there are still going to be some asking for 57 and I'm afraid they are going to be out of luck.
