The Enid Blyton Society

I have seen one or two of the Ladybird ones and they are far better than Bruno Vincent's efforts.

The ladybird ones are actually quite funny (though I wouldn't personally buy them). Arguably they are damaging the wholesome and child friendly quality of the Ladybird name but at least they are good and the titles are usually easily distinguishable from the real ladybird storybooks. With the FF parodies it is difficult to tell at a casual glance that they are not the real FF stories and also they are just boring!

Using Eileen Soper's illustrations was the last straw - now why not use those ghastly cartoony covers instead? Answer - the Soper ones added further credence to the Blyton name. Disgraceful.

I've missed a lot of recent developments regarding these books so interesting to catch up on them here. I'm surprised at their success and amused at that article in the Daily Mail.

Hopefully their existence will at least continue to get Enid a bit of free publicity and help to shift a few genuine EB books.

Judging by what people say about them on the Quercus facebook page, I should think they'll soon surpass Enid's real books in popularity.

I agree with you, Daisy. Further credence and as a disguise.

Thankfully Betty Maxey's work has so far been unadulterated in this shocking manner.

I have to admit though that the quality of the books covers themselves are very well done indeed and are a credit to the artist who had the unenviable job of following in Eileen Soper's footsteps.

I just took at look at the comments on Five Forget Mother's Day on Amazon.co.uk. There are only eight reviews altogether so far and I limited myself to the 5 star and 1 star reviews.

Of the two 5 star reviews, one was totally useless as the reviewer didn't seem to have read the book and appeared to think she was reviewing a genuine Enid Blyton:

I can't [review it] yet as it hasn't been delivered since March 9 !!

No wonder Amazon have to do a spot of deleting now and then!

And yet I tried to place a review on Amazon US that mentioned their shoddy delivery and processing speeds (ordered March 7 - delivered yesterday - cost - around £20 postage - and they told me they couldn't post the review because the subject wasn't relevant!

Just opened the periodicals delivery and thought the New Statesman cover looked a bit familiar!
