You could of course have just checked the Cave, Chrissie, as it has been sitting there for a few weeks!

Tony, good to hear from you.
How would I find out about it when I go to the Cave of Books? You know that the search functions just don't work for me.
To be honest, I had no clue that you list the Annuals there as well, because until last night I did not even know that you are involved in the creation of the FF annuals.

BTW how many FF annuals are out there? I ordered 9 and received 7 so far (among them 2014 and 2015). They are gorgeous!!!

I noticed that you have been acknowledged in the 2015 FF annual :). Congratulations on the wonderful book!

There are 9 Purnell Famous Five Annuals from the 1970s-80s, Chrissie:

There's also a 1996 Famous Five Annual published by Grandreams and (as you know) there are two recent Famous Five Annuals (2014 and 2015) published by Hodder, with a 2016 annual on the way:

I've got the last two annuals and they are beautiful books. I'm not to keen on the cover art for the 2016 annual though.

I know what John means with the 2016 Annual cover - but I will be buying it to add to the set.
I expect the contents to be as excellent and informative as the other two.

Didn't we have a discussion about the cover art for the 2016 annual several months ago? Perhaps the threads could be merged...

Yes, I think we discussed the cover of the Annual in the Website Additions thread. Personally, I don't mind this cover (originally the front cover of Five on Finniston Farm) at all - it depicts an exciting and adventurous scene, and I think it reflects the personalities of the characters well. I look forward to seeing the contents later this year when the annual comes out.

I had a look at the old discussion earlier but it's mixed up with talk of Rene Cloke illustrations and other books, with some people commenting on more than one subject in the one post, so it won't be possible to move the old discussion to this thread I'm afraid. It's nice that we've got a dedicated thread now though, ready for when the annual comes out!

Interesting that there is a demand for Famous Five annuals but not for Adventure or Mystery series annuals.

I suppose it's because the Famous Five are the most, well, famous. :P I've always felt they are completely over-rated, especially since I read the Adventure series. I also feel like I'm the only Society member who has no interest whatsoever in Famous Five annuals, old or new!

Interesting indeed, Francis. I'd love to see a Find-Outers annual. :D

Now that would be tremendous, Eddie. it's a shame that they never mad a TV series of the books - that would have made all the difference.

Quite simply there are two reasons why there aren't Adventure or Mystery Annuals. Firstly neither series is published by Hodders and secondly there just isn't the material to put together for an annual. There was a fair bit of Famous Five material to use with TV series, films and stage, along with a good quantity of earlier annuals, magazines and other merchandise. The same cannot be said for other series. Even with all this material available the cupboard is virtually empty now and I think that the 2016 Annual will be the last. In order to put enough variety and interest into an annual it was quite difficult to come up with ideas to fill this one.
