Yes, potted meat I think it was.
Always puzzled me, that. Is it the same as meat paste?

I think it's sort of a pate, so a bit thicker than the meat pastes you get today.

Just asked my parents, who smacked their lips and sighed 'ahh, meat paste'. Apparently it was pretty much pure meat mashed up and sealed in jars by a layer of butter. A much superior taste to today's standard potted meats, and presumably a lot more expensive. At least it was back in the late 1940s/early 1950s when they remember it.

I think any potted or thinned food was better then, than it is now. I mean while I like some I don't think I would like it as much as all the kids do in the books. What do you think?

I've never tried potted meat/meat paste myself, but I will sadly always blame Enid for my many hangovers at Uni. After reading so much about this 'ginger beer', I drank some, thought it was wonderful, and then when I was older moved on to the alchoholic kind, mainly Crabbies and Ginger Joe. I'm such a lightweight though, as soon as that stuff hits my lips I'm straight on the floor

The non-alcoholic kind is pretty good! Perhaps you might still think it's wonderful if you try it again!

Usually I don't, but when I'm drunk it tends to be a favorite activity of mine. That, and snuggling up to complete strangers telling them 'I think you're lovely...'

This is the best non-alcoholic ginger beer. It comes in cans (six packs) as well as bottles and can be bought at your local supermarket. Delicious! :D

My dad gets me the 'Old Jamaica Ginger Beer' ; the one you posted a picture of, Eddie, except it is in a large 2 litre bottle. It certainly is the best, but at £1, it is rather pricey considering I'm the only one who drinks it and it lasts two days!! Now he gets the 28p Morrisons own, which is just as nice. They also sell this make ginger beer in cans and in bottles at Beamish, but the prices are extremely high!

Old Jamaica is indeed delicious, haven't had the stuff recently, and probably won't for the foreseeable future (I'm spending this summer loosing weight) but if I can reach my target weight, I may just treat myself to a glass, or bottle! :D

Certainly something to look forward too, ledzep93. The Old Jamaica is a fine treat, and once you start, you go through the whole bottle almost immediately (I do anyway! :D )! I saw the small bottles of this today in our local "Heron Foods" and I was impressed with the price of 29p per bottle of 4 for £1!
