Some good purchases there Ice Maiden - especially when you consider the price of one new adult hardbacked book these days has an RRP of around £20.

Have you also got this one from last year, Nigel? Well worth having! :-)

My Holiday Book bundle has arrived. Book 5 has a very good wrapper which was filthy with mould or dust of some sort but has cleaned up nicely. Books 2,3 & 4 are in great condition despite having no wrapper and book 1 isn't actually holiday book 1 at all, it's EB's Book of the Year, which was a nice extra surprise as it's one I didn't have :D .

I presume that's the bundle I almost went for on eBay - only one Holiday book I wanted though - as I'm collecting them now in wrappers to replace all the ones I have without wrappers - so I decided not to bid, as I only really wanted number 5. :-)

Congrats on the extra book, too! The Book of the Year is a lovely one. Is it the Eileen Soper version?

 As I never buy adult books, either hardback or paperback, I had no idea they were that much. No wonder my mum and her sisters swap their books around! That's expensive in my mind, especially when their not really collectible, their the sort of books that are in every charity shop, library for sale section, church jumble sale and raffle table the length and breadth of the country  . My mum reads them once then donates them on, she says once she knows the story there's no point reading it again! I don't think she's reading the right author  .

They might be the same bundle, as this one only had the 5th with a wrapper too. I only bid for that one really, but the other book was a nice unexpected extra, and I'll sell the other three. The Holiday Books in a wrapper are quite pricey, some more than others, but there's an 11th one with a dw on Ebay that's a good price and no bids so far.

Yes the Book of the Year is an Eileen Soper version, 1950. It's a lovely book, as a musicals fan I particularly love the plays, and I'm determined to try and play the songs when I get a chance  . I intend to read it 'month by month' next year, I don't like having more than book on the go, but the chapters in this are short enough not to make a difference, and I think it would be interesting to see how accurate the nature notes section of each month is from the book to reality so many years on :) .

Great idea! I've never read my copy of 'Book of the Year' month by month. It would indeed be interesting to see how well it fits in 2017! I have both versions...like them both, although the original is slightly better, in my opinion. The Eileen Soper version was slightly abridged.

I think I saw the 11th Holiday Book on eBay - but I already have it in a dust wrapper. As you say - they are quite expensive - usually averaging around £50 per book with a wrapper. I don't need many in wrappers, as I've managed to strike lucky in finding them much cheaper than the average price. All I need are numbers 1, 2, 3 and 5. :-)

As I said above, I haven't got that one. However, I have just found this amongst my shelves:

I don't have the red book...I was put off by the fact that much of it is an abridged reprint of 'The Christmas Book' - which I already have in its full glory - whereas the blue book has loads of short stories - most of which I hadn't even read before - which seemed unbelievable to me, as I've read hundreds of her short stories.

I'll probably get the red book eventually, but its low down my list, lol! :-D

The Holiday books are really expensive in wrappers, but like you I've been lucky and managed to get them at a good price. I've paid around £90 so far for them, the only ones I need are numbers 4 and 10, which are by far the priciest :( .

I have just come out of rehab and have already had a relapse by buying yet another 'Sea of Adventure' with dust wrapper for £5. How can I overcome this addiction? Perhaps aversion therapy of some kind. Maybe an electric shock every time I see a puffin?

How many Adventure books do you have now Francis - a rough estimate is fine?
