Well done, Rob! I bought the same book and the newest Christmas collection from the same series on Book Depository last week after you had mentioned them in other thread. £6 plus each with free shipping. I have decided to collect this modern collection series because of themed/seasonal stories being compiled in books for our convenience. :D

Despite the fact they are modern collections, I like the fact they are themed for Christmas and maybe the Witches and Wizards could be said to be Halloween, etc. I also like the fact that many of the stories are previously uncollected (or at least they were in the second Christmas volume, which I had last year) - despite having loads of short story collections, there are still piles of short stories I haven't read, and that's the attraction of these new anthologies. :D

Today I bought 'Banshee Towers' for £1. No D/W and writing on the inside cover, but nice to have a hardback version.

How did you find that?

It was in a local secondhand book shop with a lot of other books for the same sort of price. I also got a Dean's Mr. Meddle book with a D/W and a 1949 'special Australian Edition' of The Naughtiest Girl in the School.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

Ha ha - no it looks fairly 'normal' to me. It will be interesting to see if any obvious changes have been made.

It sounds like a very interesting bookshop with lots of bargains on offer, Katharine. Despite its being the weakest of the Mystery series, a first (and only) hardback edition of Banshee Towners is much sought after and is very hard to find, with or without a dustwrapper, and usually sells for far more than £1. :D

It's a great little book shop, quite narrow - it seems to wind back for miles! It used to have lots of Ladybird books but they seem to have dried up now - perhaps I bought them all.

To be honest, if it wasn't for the forums I doubt I'd have bothered to buy it, as I have a modern copy somewhere, but I've seen the discussions about how rare the book is in a decent state, and thought that I might as well grab a battered copy for £1. If it turns out to have half the pages missing it will be a little disappointing, but I won't lose any sleep over it. I might actually try reading it again, I've only read it once and don't remember much about it.
