Five Find-Outers Sequel

Post by Tony Summerfield »

I have just had this book brought to my attention by someone on the Message Board.

Although Amazon.co.uk only list it as a Kindle book, it seems that it is available as a paperback (406 pages) on Amazon.com. The author is American, but I wonder if Chorion know anything about this book!! :roll:

In case anybody wondered the book is about Fatty & Co. The 'blurb' follows:-

Product Description
After over 60 years, these brilliant children have returned home to Peterswood. Fatty, Larry, Pip, Daisy and Bets are all grown up and retiring to their hometown. Be there for the reunion of these most remarkable characters of the beloved Enid Blyton with all new adventures to read and share with your children and Grandchildren. Based on the characters called "The Five Find-outers and Dog," this book will take you back to the beginning of it all and remind you of a time when right was right and wrong was punished.

I'm not sure what to make of it... sounds like the usual fanfiction. :|

I thought that too! I'm assuming it's a self-published book? :?

I'm a bit taken back about this. What if they've actually stolen my ideas and my stories? Afterall, they are on Keith's American site for all to read!!

If it was legal, I could have self published them myself. :?

Don't worry about that, Julie. If that does happen, you can always sue! :twisted:

Amazing. The cover is the same as "The Cherrys In The Snow"! It’s just been overwritten a bit.
See Aurélien’s post. http://www.enidblytonsociety.co.uk/foru ... 5&start=30

Does this mean we can hope for a reprint of the Cherrys? No, maybe I'm being too optimistic!

It is indeed self-published. The publisher is CreateSpace - the same publisher as Island of Fog!! :roll:

It was published on July 25th 2010 - perhaps you had better buy a copy, Julie and see if they are your stories!!

From the blurb about Fatty and Co reproduced by Tony:
Tony Summerfield wrote:Dr Rosson loves to get email and you may contact him always at markrosson@comcast.net
I have just emailed Dr Rosson asking for further information about his book and whether he intends to make it available in the UK. If I get a reply, I'll post it on this thread.

I hope your ideas and stories haven't been stolen, Julie. If I get any more information, I'll pass it on.
'Go down to the side-shows by the river this afternoon. I'll meet you somewhere in disguise. Bet you won't know me!' wrote Fatty.

Thanks, Eddie. All info greatly received. Just hope he hasn't stolen my ideas. Let's hope Chorion has something to say about this.

I hate to say this, but I just downloaded the free Kindle sample (an electronic version) and... *takes deep breath* ...this so-called author has actually lifted Julie's stories and turned them into chapters. I have it open right now. The chapter title might be slightly different, but the text is identical:

Chapter 1 is The Return to Peterswood
Chapter 2 is The Invisible Thief
Chapter 3 is A Prince's Ransom
...and so on.

Since I'm a CreateSpace member, I've written this to them:
It's come to my attention that a so-called author is using CreateSpace to publish stolen, copyrighted material.

http://www.amazon.com/Return-Five-Find- ... B003VIWV6O" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I downloaded a free sample of this Kindle edition and found, as I feared, that the content has been lifted directly from my website at http://www.enidblyton.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Take a look through and you'll see that the chapters match, word for word, the content on my site under the heading "The Five Find-Outers in Retirement" by Julie Heginbotham:

http://www.enidblyton.net/fanfic.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

My website is a fansite for the English author Enid Blyton, who died in 1968. Her work is NOT in the public domain, and any fan fiction published on my site is free and for the enjoyment of fans. It is NOT there to be stolen, made into a book, and published for profit by a CreateSpace member. This so-called author, M. E. Rosson, has not only stolen another writer's work, but is attempting to profit from characters copyrighted by Chorion (see http://www.chorion.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). Even if Rosson had written these stories him/herself -- which I can assure she/he did not -- it would still be illegal.

I'm going to write to the "author" but, in the meantime, please could you advise what can be done about this? Ideally, can this writer and book be removed? The original stories, written by Julie Heginbotham in the UK, and supplied to me for display on my fansite, is the sole owner of these stories, but is not a CreateSpace member.

Thanks for your advice about this.

Keith Robinson
I've since dug deeper and found that the author is a Mark Rosson, email markrosson@comcast.net. (Edit: I didn't read Tony's post above until later!) He lives in Tennessee, which is not a million miles from me. I would urge you all to flame him with scathing reviews on Amazon -- "his" book is listed here:

http://www.amazon.com/Return-Five-Find- ... B003VIWV6O" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (in the USA)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Return-Five-Fin ... B003VIWV6O" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (in the UK)

There's also a paperback version in the USA:
http://www.amazon.com/Return-Five-Find- ... 145370387X" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ($18.99 indeed!)

I'm sitting here fuming, and I can only imagine what Julie must be feeling. This was always going to be a risk, but knowing the risk in advance doesn't really help much when it happens. No doubt Rosson is feverishly and gleefully working to publish his next book, The Mystery of the Stolen Books. It all stinks to high heaven and this scumbag needs to be taken down.

That is despicable - I was joking when I commented about "fanfic" but to just lift those off is beyond belief! :evil:

Edit: Why is Amazon so annoying? They won't even let me review unless I complete a purchase!

This is the chap: http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/1416598.M_E_Rosson" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So he was a pastor? His influence is Jesus? He's written books about the bible? Wow. The mind boggles!

I just wrote a (restrained) email to him. I hope everyone else will do the same:

Er Actually Yes I think he does look the type. Thats a very sleazy, foxy smile on his face in that picture. He reminds me of a snake oil salesman or one of those lawyers who specialise in ambulance chasing. What a dickhead. I wonder where he stole his other books from. Hopefully Amazon will remove the book and the createspace site also. :evil:
