The Kirrin Family

Post by Nick »

Merged with an older thread.

Apologies if this has been asked before but can anyone tell me the relationships between the FF parents.

I'm pretty sure that in book 1 Uncle Q is described as being the brother of Julian, Dick and Anne's parents. This would mean that the Kirrin name came from them. However, George explains that Kirrin once belonged to her mothers family and that would have made her a Kirrin before she married Uncle Q.

Is this a plot hole or am I missing the obvious?

Regards,

This is one of the bloopers found in many Blyton's - it was discussed before in an other site, which can be seen here.
"A holiday — a mystery — an adventure — and a happy ending for dear old Barney!" said Roger. "What more could anyone want?"
"An ice cream," said Snubby promptly. "Who's coming to buy one?" The Rubadub Mystery

Or maybe they are simply a family of inbreds...?

The theory that I tend to favour is that Uncle Quentin and Aunt Fanny were, in fact, cousins - 1st or second cousins - with the same surname. And just look :P at the offspring that the two of them produced.......

Yes, I wasn't being serious, old fellow! I agree, 1st or 2nd cousins they were sure to be. Obviously having great wealth in the past to have a bay, castle and village named after them!

Almost instant messaging, eh, Moonraker!

By the way, did you notice that my latest attempt to liven up Ming's life failed.....miserably? [See 'What did you have?' thread on 'Misc Blyton' Board] But then I never thought *sigh* that young PM lacked astuteness.

What's wrong with my life?

I think Fanny and Quentin being cousins is the most logical explanation.

I lack astuteness, eh Aurélien? Oh, I don't know .... wrong term used?

You could liven up my life though! I have, for the moment, a LOT to study. The 4th Unit Test exams are starting on the 16th (there seem to be exams every month... yes!), and on top of that I have the High School [bear in mind that 'high school' means 7th standard, or class, or whatever] Scholarship Exam to give on 15th, just one day before! And yes, I have something else too .... a 'public exam' on our national language, Hindi.

Three in one month, how am I ever supposed to do three things at once???

As for livening up Ming's life, well, if you'll ask for the second time, I will think of an alternative tomorrow 8) , but don't ask me today - I'm too busy. ["Not too busy to write posts!" I hear you say. Ah well, that's a different matter! :D ]

Too much boring old school, perhaps. Anyway I tried to nudge PM into calling you...something, before he's too old to make it stick, but *alas* the sensible lad wasn't having any....had to be someone younger than you, see.....

Old Aurélien slinks away, defeated.....for now.....

I am just popping this up to people on the Middle Names thread so they can move their conversations here!
Abi.

Still trialling other writers, but will eventually go back to reading a bit of Blyton! Just too many books...

Occasionally will pop in! xx

If Quentin's brother didn't have the same name, I would say he took on his wife's name at marriage - was that even an option in the 40s?
