That's a lovely front cover - I love the arrangement of all the characters marching down between the words! What a great deal for just £3, Robert!

And being able to show Tony a photo of something he thought hadn't existed was pretty cool too!

I rather like Jenny Chapple's illustrations for the Malory Towers books. In fact, having grown up mostly with those in the copies I repeatedly borrowed from the library, I'd say I like them better than the Stanley Lloyd ones. I see Darrell much more like Jenny Chapple drew her at any rate. They are a little more modern but I still think they're reasonably timeless.

I still haven't seen another copy of that book, Rob. I have seen Enid Blyton's name on the flap of other Book Club editions that I have from that period by other authors, but I still don't know of any other Blyton Book Club books (if any) were published except those published after her death.Robert Houghton wrote:And being able to show Tony a photo of something he thought hadn't existed was pretty cool too!

Thank you, Julie and sixret, I'm very happy to have found one copy at last and look forward to read it in English.

Does it still have the dust wrapper, Daisy?Daisy wrote:My copy of the Secret Island, given to me in 1947, has a yellowy orange cover - not sure how discoloured and faded it has become over the years, but it is very precious all the same!

Sadly not Chrissie. I'm afraid several of my books lost their wrappers as they became tattered and torn. I wish I had known how important it was going to be to protect them!

Today "Tales from the bible (Dradon 1976)" and "You funny little Noddy (featuring golliwogs)" arrived.

Five on Kirrin Island Again - 3rd Impression, 1949. D/W a little battered, and repaired with Sellotape, but virtually complete. Five Get into Trouble 1st edition. D/W missing about an inch strip from bottom of front cover. Five Go to Billycock Hill. 1st edition. D/W complete, but mended with strip of Sellotape. Total cost - £6.97.
I was thrilled with these purchases. I've been after a hard back copy of Five on Kirrin Island Again for a while now, and longed for one with a D/W, but didn't think I'd get one for only £1.99. It has a Sunday School Award sticker inside which may have put some people off buying it, but I like that kind of thing. Both this and Five Get Into Trouble have white spines - I don't think I've got any in that format, so I feel quite excited with my purchases.

They sound like an excellent buy, Katharine! I agree that prize labels are nice to see, as are inscriptions.

I like the white-spined early editions of the Five books, too. I prefer the illustrations on the front of the covers more than the later editions. £6.97 for those three books is an absolute bargain, Katharine. Well done.
