Consistencies in characters and their roles

Yes, that really bothered me particularly in relation to Mirabel, ie, she was just so passionate about her music and then seems to drop it completely in favour of games. We (ie, 10yo daughter and I) have just been reading all the books as well as the Pamela Cox ones and I think Pamela Cox has plots involving Gladys and her dramatic skills.

I might be wrong, but I think one of the German follow-up books also unearthed Mirabel's musical side - I would have to check it out, because the translation also changed the names of many girls.
