Hi, just wondering if any of Enid's letters are available. The letters in Teacher's World and magazines are there, but not the ones she wrote back to various fans.

Also, is there any letter she ever wrote to a fan adult? I suddenly wondered how she would reply to one.

The letters which Enid wrote in reply to her fans would be kept by the children I expect. She wrote to me when I was eleven and I kept the letter for years ... along with an autographed photograph and another autograph which she used to send out. That was on a sticky label and mine had a picture of Josie, Click and Bun on it, with my name in her writing as well as her autograph. I still have the autographs but the letter has not been seen for ages... I never knowingly got rid of it, but haven't been able to find it.

Ooh - lovely! I wish she was still alive, then I could have done the same, and maybe even met her.

It's a shame that you lost your letter from Enid Blyton, Daisy, but at least you've still got her autographs which must be a delightful treasure to you.

I never had a written reply from Enid but I did receive one from Malcolm Saville and, like Daisy, I cannot find the letter anywhere. I think it must have got thrown away when I got married.

Do we know if Enid added personal touches to her replies to children, or did she just send out a form letter? I can imagine she must have received literally millions of fan letters during her very long career.

I do actually still have my letter from Malcolm Saville John, written in 1971 in reply to one from me thanking him of the Marston Baines series.

Being born after Enid's death, I sadly never had a letter from her. :-( I do have a typed and signed letter from Doris Day though. ;-)

Sadly, I never had a letter from Enid, but I do have a signed letter from Anthony Buckeridge. :D

Interesting to hear that you have a typed and signed letter from Doris Day, Rob. As a child, I was one of her biggest fans and loved her film Calamity Jane. :D

As a big fan of old movies and film stars I love them all. I've also done Calamity Jane on stage. :-). I know sometimes film stars have agents write their letters but I'm pretty sure the one I have from Doris Day was typed by her as it was very informal and signed in felt pen. I also wrote to Ginger Rogers when her autobiography came out in the 90's and have her autograph, which is a much prized possession! :-)

I wish I'd taken more care of my letter from Malcolm Saville. I can't remember why I wrote to him in the first place and all I can recall of his reply is his writing, not only the letters but the words were joined up, it looked to have been done in a great hurry.

Interesting that he joined his words up - something Enid often did too. :-)
