I'd be surprised if it was after 1960, as I think her plays had finished being performed by then? Not completely sure, but I think by 1959 the Noddy pantomime and Famous Five plays had finished. 8)

The Famous Five play was only performed in two years, 1955-56 and 1956-57, but the Noddy play was still going strong in 1962-63 as I have a programme for the Scala Theatre in Tottenham Court Road. For those that have read things elsewhere, the three golliwogs were still in it and they still had their original names.

Thanks Tony! :-D I have a Stoll Theatre programme, which has no date - but obviously that was the 1950's as there's an advert for Enid Blyton's Magazine. :-)

Thank you, Pete for the letters and Tony for the information. :D

I wonder how did you get the letter, Pete?

Her writing is extremely difficult for me to read especially the last two.

Great stuff, Pete! I've only had time to read the first two letters so far and found them very interesting:

Those who read the Teachers World thread, in which Tony puts up Enid Blyton's Teachers World pages each week, will recall reading the 1933 pages last year and seeing some discussion of country schools and town schools forming links. The 1933 Teachers World pages begin here, in case anyone missed them:

I can date this for you, Rob. The Stoll Theatre was used twice:-
1954-55 Bunny May as Noddy
1956-57 Donald Wilson as Noddy

Just read the letter (I couldn't quite make out every word) about Enid Blyton being too busy to attend many public engagements and about how she remembers Marigold Keeble and especially Marigold's brother, Tommy - "an enchanting, untidy imp of a boy, in the Transition, or the first form."

The letter to Mr. and Mrs. Baverstock (parents of Donald Baverstock, who had married Enid's elder daughter Gillian) is fascinating too. It seems that Gillian and Donald, presumably on their honeymoon, were finding France very expensive and were planning to go on to Italy as soon as possible.

Great finds, Pete!

Nice indeed. £70 is out of my range though.

That one doesn't even look like Enid's genuine signature.

It was a nuisance. An adventure was one thing - but an adventure without anything to eat was quite another thing. That wouldn't do at all. (The Valley of Adventure)

I can't help feeling sorry for those people who are bidding...even if they are a bit stupid!
