Watching the Antiques Roadshow which has featured a series of letters from Enid to a teacher and children pre-war and included a couple of photos of Old Thatch - the lot valued at £1500 pounds.

That's interesting, Francis. I'll have to see whether that episode is available on iplayer.

It should be, Anita - it is well worth catching. Interested in what you think of the lots. The expert said the letters showed how nice a person she was - quite refreshing for somebody on the BBC to say that!

Can anyone technical post a link to the show to watch on the iplayerif they are able?

I had a look on iplayer, Pete, but yesterday's programme doesn't seem to be available. Earlier episodes of The Antiques Roadshow are up, so maybe this one will be added at a later date.

Thanks, Nigel. I've just watched the clip and it was interesting to see the letters, postcards and photos. I notice that on one letter the printed Old Thatch address was crossed out and the Green Hedges address was written in, as it was dated September 1938 and Enid had moved house the month before.

The antiques expert obviously doesn't realise that Enid Blyton was well-known long before the advent of Noddy, especially in educational circles!

I've no idea whether £1,500 or thereabouts is an accurate value, but it's a nice little collection.

Thanks for the link, Nigel. Chick and have also just seen it, Anita, and we both commented on the so-called expert's lack of knowledge about Enid Blyton's fame. Nevertheless, it was interesting to watch.

An interesting and delightfully personalised selection of postcards and letters from Enid Blyton there. Great to see the photo of Enid and surely that was Bobs (?) by Blyton's wishing well.
The expert certainly didn't seem to know much about Enid Blyton herself, but it was nice to hear him say what a nice person Blyton must have been to write these postcards.

I suspect he was 'winging it' a bit but I should think he wasn't far out with his valuation. It was a lovely collection and quite early.

I saw this quite by chance. I remember thinking there were a lot better "experts" they could have consulted on here.

I think they are just experts in letters/old documents - not necessarily on the author/writer.

Yes, I think this is the case. The expert obviously hadn't heard of Enid's other books, as he only seemed to know about Noddy.
