I was watching match of the day last week, and Gary Linekar said something like, 'i've had enough of the Enid Blytons in this league' but he could have said 'blooming fighting'.

Re: Blyton References on TV
I was so excited tonight as the first section of the Missing Vowels round on Only Connect was 'Enid Blyton Books'. And then I only managed to get one right!
If you've never seen Only Connect the missing vowels round gives you a clue like EB books then displays the answer without the vowels and with the consonants in order but with random spacing. So, Five on a treasure island may look like : fvn trsrs lnd. Or f vnt rsr sln d. Very difficult!
It should be on the iPlayer if anyone wants to have a go themselves.

"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

I saw it too and likewise didn't get any in the time allowed. I was pleased to hear Victoria refer to the Malory Towers book as excellent!

Amazingly my partner who has barely read a Blyton in his life got one of the answers right - one of the ones I couldn't get.

What - modest little me????
To be fair, if I hadn't read the earlier comment about what Victoria said, I don't know if I'd have got that one quite as quickly. I think I deserve to have got the first one right - my reward for being a devoted fan.

On 'Heart with Dave and Heidi' this week they were talking about their favourite books, and Heidi said she loved the Faraway Tree with Moonface, Dame Washalot and the Saucepan Man. Sadly she'd didn't mention it was by Enid Blyton though. Still it was good to hear it mentioned on the radio.

A 1st edition of Five On A Treasure Island with a rather tatty dustwrapper was the star buy on For What Its Worth, the BBC antique quiz yesterday, Tuesday. It was valued at £2,500.

Call The Midwife had one of the characters say the patient looked at her like she was straight out of Malory Towers whenever she spoke, a couple of episodes back .
