Enid Blyton Documentary

Post by Elizabeth Farrell »

I wonder if anyone can help me. Years ago, I watched a documentary on Enid Blyton. It involved her daughter, Gillian, as well as details about the chapel being burned where Finniston Farm was set, and, at the end, I'm pretty sure they drank ginger beer round a campfire.

I know it's not much to go on, but I'd really love to watch it again and I can't remember it's name or anything. I'm sorry to be so vague, but I'm sure one of you will have seen it. Thanks in advance.

(Oh, and please feel free to delete/move this thread as you see fit - I'm a brand new member and don't know where everything is yet.)

Hi Elizabeth and welcome! I'm afraid it doesn't ring any bells with me, but I am sure Tony and Anita will know about it.

Welcome to the website and forums, Elizabeth Farrell! I remember that Gillian Baverstock featured in the BBC programme Sunny Stories (produced and directed by Ken Howard) and in a programme called Homeground. If you do searches on "Ken Howard" or "Homeground", you should find posts about both of those on the forums.

Welcome to the forums, Elizabeth Farrell . :D

If I remember correctly, Sunny Stories was first shown by the BBC in 1992. Click on the following forum link for my more information:

Is Sunny Stories the drama that featured Maureen Lipman? If so, I have it on DVD - but I'm not sure where it is!

There was also a documentary about Enid Blyton entitled Enid Blyton: Secret Lives, which was first shown on Channel 4 Television on 16th December 1996.

Were these programmes released generally on DVD, or copies from the TV?

They weren't generally released on DVD or video, Katharine. I have Sunny Stories on VHS video and Enid Blyton: Secret Lives on DVD - both copied from the television.

Yes, I am fortunate in having friends in high places, so have quite a few DVDs that haven't been generally released to the public. :D
