Surely the children who did the first film four years ago are now far too old to play the same characters. I have watched the first two films and quite enjoyed them. Although they were modernised they both followed an Enid Blyton story (they used the two stories that had been filmed originally in Danish), but although I haven't seen it, the third film sounds to have gone more in the Claude Voilier direction and from the clips I have seen I thought the children looked too old then, so goodness only know what they will look like in the fourth film!

The second based on the story which was also filmed by the old Dansk/German Co-Production. The first based on Five on Kirrin Island Again, and was a little bit like the first two episodes of the 78 Series. So it made sense that Marcus Harris was also there. ;-)

Nice to see you posting, Soenke, as we haven't heard from you for a while!

It doesn't look as though the fourth film will be very Blytonish. Neither was the third film, which a friend recently bought me as a present, though I still enjoyed certain aspects of it. The camaraderie between the Five was as strong as ever, the actress who played Jo (a Thai girl living in a fishing village) fitted in well and the Thailand locations were lovely to look at. However, some scenes were laughably far-fetched, especially scenes involving a pea-shooter. And Dick and Jo were shown as being attracted to each other, which is not the kind of thing you find in a Blyton book. Although one or two elements were perhaps inspired by Five on a Treasure Island and Five Fall Into Adventure, I felt that the third film strayed far from the Famous Five as conceived by Enid Blyton.

Interesting Anita. As a child reading Fall Into Adventure I immediately thought Dick fancied Jo, ditto with Plenty of Fun. When we did the series, Julie and I tried to get a bit of that in there (she punches him, how could he not fall for her after that??)

When I listened to the audioplay or read the book, I always had the impression that Dick felt pity for her and Jo realised it and therefore chose him as "best friend" - but nothing more. Though Jo didn't introduce herself in the most favourable fashion three of the Five were not particularly nice to Jo at first.

Interesting comments, Gary and Wolfgang. Like Wolfgang, when I read Five Fall Into Adventure I just thought Dick felt sympathy for Jo and that she appreciated his kindness, so a bond of friendship developed between them quite early on. And then of course all the Five gradually grew to genuinely like and admire Jo. I suppose the idea of Dick and Jo "fancying" each other didn't cross my mind because it would be rare to find such a relationship in an Enid Blyton book.

I suppose it was to bring in those who like slushy romance.

Does anyone here know what the actual names of the films were? It sounds like there were four films made. I would like to find links to them all online, but I need the names of them first... :)

Thanks for the links, Wolfgang. Can you tell me if any of these had English subtitles or were dubbed into the English language? I know sometimes they have multi-languages on one DVD. I'll go search some more. Thanks again.

Actually found #3 but just in German on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFWSTgZ-GOQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
