"It's the ash! It's falling!" yelled Julian, almost startling Dick out of his wits...
"Listen to its terrible groans and creaks!" yelled Julian, almost beside himself with impatience.

Re: 70s Famous Five on DVD?
I got the notification today that they'll publish another DVD of the series in January - containing Five go off to camp, Five go off in a caravan and Five on a hike together. Its price 9.99€ (so far), which is not really cheap. I wonder how many copies they will sell if you get all 26 episodes for about 30€ at Amazon (new), used they offer for 20€.

If I can dig the disc out, there's a quality oops on a DW disc - I'll see if I can get a screengrab for illustrative purposes.Fiona1986 wrote:CheersZar Quon wrote:Corrected that for youFiona1986 wrote:Or just that the people they hire don't know there possessive from they're plurals.

Heslop (Porridge) and Tiger Dan (Five Go Off in a Caravan) were both played by Brian Glover (1934-1997). Brian who used to be a professional wrestler played many parts in films and television series. His first role was as Mr Sugden in the classic film, Kes (1969).

You could ask Walter Potganski in this Thread (German Famous Five Forum): http://108500.forumromanum.com/member/f ... onsearch=1 ... He looks ca. one time a week on it, I suppose ...ciclón wrote:When a Blu ray edition in UK.....with spanish subtitles?

Merry Xmas and happy new year for all people forum...
Which is best buy, German-dvd set or English?
Are there differences between both editions, extras, booklet,etc....? (except language)
Finally, the serial is available on Blu ray?
All the best

Re: 70s Famous Five on DVD
It must be well over a year since I got my copy of 'Famous Five' on DVD. While it just contains the episodes and no extra features or subtitles etc., I must say I am still very happy with it.
I haven't seen any updated version to it all around Australia. Has any updated version with bonus features been released?

I've forgotten exactly what people said about the German DVD set and I don't know if the series made it onto Blu-ray in the end, but if you look back through the thread you may find some answers, Ciclón.ciclón wrote:Which is best buy, German-dvd set or English?

I bought the English DVD set when it came out in August 2012. It has a booklet (attached to the DVD box) with information and photos. The booklet contains a detailed and enjoyable article by Gail Renard. After the article comes a list of "Episode Descriptions" but the descriptions relate to the books instead of to the TV episodes (in which certain elements differ)! On one of the discs (disc 3, I think) there's an interview with Gary Russell, Marcus Harris, Jennifer Thanisch and Gail Renard. It's very interesting indeed and lasts about 50 minutes. There's also a 2-minute trailer and some photos.
The picture and sound quality are much improved - far better than on the video releases.
I'm pleased with the DVD set and have watched some episodes several times, though it's a shame that some things which were filmed didn't make it onto DVD:
On July 22nd 2011 Gail Renard wrote:...our Famous Five DVD should be out in October. Marcus Harris, Gary Russell, Jennifer Thanisch and I had a marvellous day filming a special featurette for it; talking about our series. We've also recorded commentaries for three episodes and I don't know when I've had so much fun.
I don't know which interview was used on the English DVD set - the 2011 one or the 2012 one. And the commentaries for the three episodes weren't used at all. That's a pity, as the live commentary for Five Fall Into Adventure at the 2010 Enid Blyton Day (done by Gail, Marcus, Gary and Julie [Ragamuffin Jo]) was super. On April 4th 2012 Gail Renard wrote:...our beloved Famous Five series is coming out on DVD in the UK very soon. Gary Russell, Marcus Harris, Jennifer Thanisch and I just filmed some extras for it last week. As ever, we loved being together and reminiscing about our series.
