I am just watching the 1995 version of Five Go Adventuring Again. It is a bit different from the book. Mr Roland does not have a beard, it's not Christmas and it's raining rather than snowing.

I hope they haven't altered the story line too much, that's one of my favourite books.

You'd better not watch it then Katharine! Mind you in some respects it's nearer the book than the 70s version.
They have to be watched as if they are independent stories really... that's the only way I can enjoy them.

I slightly prefer the 1970s version of Five Go Adventuring Again because Mr. Roland is creepier in that. The actor who plays the 1990s Mr. Roland is far too old for the part. George and Uncle Quentin are excellent in both episodes so they're worth a watch in my opinion. However, I do miss the wintry setting. In the book, the cold weather and deep snow enhance the tension and claustrophobia which are central to the story.

Be glad they didn't use Scotland for a winter-bound location ala the 1988-1990 BBC Narnia series!

IMDB has it credited to 6 different directors which is madness obviously.

Seems a tad unlikely they would all have been required but you never know I suppose...

The video also mentions all three writers for the series, when there was obviously only one involved for each story, but I see that other videos also tend to mention three writers and three directors, so I think the only way to get the definitive answer would be to watch it as I am sure there would have only been one director.

I watched Billycock Hill being filmed and the director was Tim Dowd, but again the video lists three directors which was definitely not the case.

Weeeeeell, actually it's not always the case that there is "obviously only one" for each story. Clearly I wasn't there to know for sure, but it's perfectly feasible for a filmed-on-location series to have Director A attached to an episode and they do a majority of it but if there's been bad weather/illness/recurring locations not available during that block, that odd sequences and location-specific stuff may well get picked up by Directors B and/or C during their filming blocks because that's significantly easier than dragging Director A back to do something six weeks later.

That happens a lot on TV.
