Good observations, Carlotta. You make me want to watch Five Go Down to the Sea again - though I doubt I'll ever catch up with your "thousands of times"!

No, I haven't done any cleaning this week, keep putting it off. I'd much rather iron than clean. Maybe we'll have to swap next time?Anita Bensoussane wrote:Sorry, I was Dame Ironalot yesterday. I'm Dame Cleanalot today (*hopes Katharine has already done her cleaning for this week*!)Katharine wrote:Anita, if you want to watch some more episodes, but run out of ironing, I've got plenty here you can have.
I'm sure there must be an Enid Blyton story about someone like me who constantly puts off the housework, I'm sure my character would come to a sticky end.
All the comments about Five Go Down To The Sea make me long to watch it. I shall have to try and get hold of a copy of it.

Hehe to be fair I do use it like an audio book a lot of the time, it's just nice to have it on in the background (and the other episodes too) while I'm doing something else like housework or painting, so the 'thousands of times' are probably a combination of listening to it as well as watching!

Re:
Have a look if it's on Youtube Katharine - then you can see what we're all raving about.
I would check for you but my browser has issues with youtube so I can't look.

Re: Famous Five 90s Series
Thanks for the tip Anita, I'll put the housework off a bit longer so I can read it.

Re: Famous Five 90s Series
TV hours for children have got very restrictive as well. Countdown (UK TV game show, for the benefit of our non-UK readership!) has stopped having children on because it's not practical. Children are only allowed to film for one hour before having a break, which as the programme is 50 minutes long, doesn't leave much time for retakes. They can only work 3 hours a day, which makes things impossible because the champion returns for the next game and they record five shows a day. And the child is only allowed 5 hours maximum in the studio (though I believe they could get round that by making them sit in the car park between shows). And then there's all sorts of stupid rules like the child should be chaparoned at all times, even when going to the toilet (I assume they wait outside the cubicle, but even so, your average 15-year-old will think that's a bit infra dig) and the whole thing becomes next to impossible.Zar Quon wrote:At which point you suddenly run into the small problem of working hours allowed for children... I wonder if they could get round it by filming abroad?

Re: Famous Five 90s Series
Not sure if TV studios have different rules, but when I was chaperoning at a local stage performance last year, we were told we had to accompany everyone under 18 to the toilet. And no, that did not go down well with the 15 - 17 year olds. I think they were even told, they mustn't bolt the door behind them!! Thankfully I wasn't on the corridor duty, so only had to sign the children in and out of the room.
I can understand we had to account for everyone in the building at all times, so it makes sense when you have somewhere between 20 and 30 people in a room, that someone makes a note of who has left the room, even if it's just to go to the toilet, but the theatre was so small, that the toilet door was in view of someone at all times, so the older girls really didn't need to be escorted to the room. The trouble is, we probably could have got away with letting them go on their own, but if the local council had decided to do a surprise inspection, the show could have been cancelled half way through the performance if we hadn't complied with the rules.
Last year for the first time we also had a time restriction imposed upon us, and it was a rush to make sure the girls all left the theatre in time. It's a very fine juggling act to make sure they all get to the theatre in time to get made up and changed, but then to make sure they are all off stage and out of the building within the time limit. If the show has a hiccup for some reason, and the performance is delayed by a few minutes, it eats into the time left to get the girls ready at the end.

Good gracious what draconian rules. Has the world gone mad? Surely that is an over zealous interpretation of what should surely only be guidelines. No wonder fewer and fewer activities are deemed to be worth the effort these days!
