Re: Famous Five 90s Series
Having worked on the BBC TV series 'Doctors' in my own small way, I was going to suggest that maybe more than one director might well have been used. Last year, we filmed an episode where some scenes were filmed back at base, while others were filmed on location in Birmingham - overseen by two different directors, but the same episode.
'Oh voice of Spring of Youth
hearts mad delight,
Sing on, sing on, and when the sun is gone
I'll warm me with your echoes
through the night.'

Re: Famous Five 90s Series
That's very interesting for a movie buff like me, Robert and Gary .
I never noticed that more than one director was mentioned at the end credits, but will pay more attention from now on.
The imdb sometimes mentions two directors (for instance when Douglas Sirk supported Jerry Hopper's directing when he filmed "Never Say Goodbye" with Rock Hudson), but not at the end credits of older films.

Re: Famous Five 90s Series
I started to watch the German "Far Scape" Blueray edition, and in the first commentory they mentioned that several episodes (not necessarily consecutive) have been filmed on block, because they needed one location for these episodes, while they also ilmed at another location simultaneously. So there were also several directors involved for one episode.

Re: Famous Five 90s Series
I'm never sure how much, er credit, to give the credits. I know someone who was credited for being a lighting director working in a studio based show in Britain (I'm being deliberately vague here) when he was actually on the Falklands fighting the Argentinians at the time.

Fascinating, Gary and Rob. It has often puzzled me at the number of (I think) Associate/Executive Producers in the opening credits of The Walking Dead. Gary's explanation solves that issue! I notice that American productions have so many end credits that even the spider on the lens seems to get a mention. Game of Thrones is such an example. Films too have many minutes of scrolling credits. What happened to just seeing The End or maybe just the cast. Having said this, it only seems fair that people who work in a film - not just the actors, should get a mention. Although with GoT, you would have to pause each frame to read them all, as they flash by at such a speed.

Re: Famous Five 90s Series
I'm looking to buy this series on DVD, but having trouble working out which copy is the best to purchase. As far as box sets go, I think that the spanish release appears to be the most complete? The Dutch release is apparently missing 'Five Go to Smuggler's Top'. Is there any other release available?

Having trouble locating the Danish version, the Spanish one seems a bit easier. Do you know if there's any difference in the transfer? Are they all from the same source?

Re: Famous Five 90s Series
I'm watching the 90s series again at the moment. I've started watching the second series and have just finished watching Five Go On a Hike Together. I did notice a change in the plot as the children find the loot in the Saucy Jane at the boat yard, when in the book they find it at the bottom of the lake and have to dive in themselves.

Re: Famous Five 90s Series
I was wondering about that, too. Maybe it was the cold season when this was filmed or the actors were afraid of diving?

True, I wouldn't want to dive into that lake either!

I wonder if Health and Safety had caused restrictions by the time these were filmed?

Re: Famous Five 90s Series
Daisy, that would make sense.
Remember the 1957 CFF movie "Five on a Treasure Island" when the kids were diving for the sunken ship? Nobody worried about safety way back then. I assume it must have been filmed in Dorset during their summer hols.

I hadn't thought of that, sounds very likely.Daisy wrote:I wonder if Health and Safety had caused restrictions by the time these were filmed?
