Re: 1957 film serial of Five on a Treasure Island
Did anyone on this forum ever see this when it first came out, or the Mystery To Solve serial? I'm just curious to know what their thoughts were when they first saw it, back in 1957.

Five on a Treasure Island film
The original film from 1957 is on youtube! Apparently Enid chose the famous five children for the film.

Best place for it. And it just goes to prove that an author should keep out of casting.

Thanks for merging it. I did do a search because I was sure you would have had something on it but it didn't come up in a search.

Thanks for trying, Deepeabee. It's not always easy searching for things, especially if you haven't been on the forums long and aren't sure whether an older topic exists or not. I think I searched for "treasure" and selected "topic titles only" in "Blyton on TV" - something along those lines anyway.

I have that problem quite a lot. I'll try searching and if I don't get the wording right first time, I then get a message telling me I can't use advanced search again, and to try later (or similar wording). It also happens if it brings up more than one page with possible matches, if it's not on the first page, I can't look at the second page for the same reason. The only way I can get around that is to search again later, and go straight to page 2 (or whichever page I need).deepeabee wrote:Thanks for merging it. The "try again later" means "in about a minute". You can't search too fast/often for some reason.

I don't like the accents of the children but I do like the background scenery as it is authentic to the time and provides the right atmosphere. I also wonder why they altered the story line beyond recognition?

I didn't mind the children's accents, as I felt they fitted with the way children from that class at that time would have spoken. If you think they've mucked about with the story on that one, wait until you see the 1964 version of Five have a Mystery to Solve, and as for the accents - don't get me started. Three of the children are really 'posh', whereas Dick is a Cockney!

I watched it on DVD a couple of months ago. When watched as an Enid Blyton story I found it hugely disapointing. If I thought about it as just a children's adventure then it was quite good, if that makes sense.

I've still to see it all the way through....What I can't fogive Enid for is allowing this travesty to be made.

Re: 1957 film serial of Five on a Treasure Island
I actually just watched this a couple of days ago - I must say I actually quite enjoyed it.
"If anyone's on my island," began George, looking very fierce and angry, "if anyone's on my island, I'll-I'll-I'll-"
"You'll explode and go up in smoke!" said Dick.
